LOTRO Free Trial and anyone still play?

Characters are bound to the server you create them in, with a limit of 5 characters per server, 7 if you own the Mines of Moria expansion.

That said there is a premium service where you pay to have the character moved over to another server. Frankly I wouldn't spend money on such a thing, especially on a lower level character. (Though I can see why someone with a lvl 60 character that he's invested a lot of time on would).

I think its overpriced though. Maybe an administrative fee of £2, or free with a limit as to how often you can change server, but £11.99 is a bit steep. Its more than a month's fee, for someone to basically do a few clicks to move your profile.

(The £5.99 character rename fee really withdraws the urine.)

Boo looks like I might starting my character again - poop. That's quite an annoying way to operate.

i imagine they charge so much to put people off using it, as i guess it can break things if done incorrectly

im hoping the next update Bk 7 fixes the Ettenmoors (PvP) as the freeps may aswell have been given grenades and machine guns, the imbalance is that bad since Mines of Moria release!

It's bad yes but I think the creeps hurt themselves more by not working together enough as they all rush to try and hog the infamy for themselves. That big freep wipe in TA the other day is testament to the fact that we are still capable of good things even if we aren't strong individually. It's a shame that 'goldtagging' has become the accepted approach for the DPS classes (high ranked ones especially) since it leaves WLs, Defilers and even Weavers without much of a role for the most part.

Pre-MoM, a creep raid could easily stand toe-to-toe with a freep raid and battle it out for hours whilst most importantly being incredibly great fun,.. Since MoM creeps do not stand a chance in the same situation, for example my hunter can kill a greendot or even a blue dot creep in 4-5 hits ie 2 button presses!

i currently have a R7 WL, R6 weaver, R6 BlackArrow, R5 Warg, R5 reaver and a baby Defiler r2 .. i know how bad some classes have been hit especially the Warleader whose mitigations have been practically taken away and heals that are practically useless in the current situation.

i agree that if creeps work as a team they can 'sometimes' become effective but its disheartening for newcomers who as soon as they step out of grams are killed in a few seconds with no chance of a reprieve or ability to fight back..

worst of all, i doubt the changes to creep classes in Bk 7 will turn the problems around

If that was their only motivation a simple rule such as you cannot change server more than once every X amount of time would sort it.

I think its a combination of that AND simply increasing revenue.

Looks rather similiar to WoW to me :D I given up for now it's too laggy on my computer in the free areas, tomorrow new graphics card tho so shuld hopefully be ok.

I played WoW (not for very long) before getting into LOTRO, and yes the early game is very similar, especially with the similar GUI, however the differences are huge the deeper you get into it. Also the community is very different, and thats a massive part of these games.

Well I'll bow down to your assessment of the ettens as I've only played since MoM really! (I did a month or so at the original lotro launch but I've forgotten how it was)

It'd be nice to stand toe to toe with the freeps as my current WL tactic involves fleeing in the opposite direction the second I get targetted, chugging pots when I can since there's literally nothing else I can do, not even a self-heal as it gets hindered and interrupted...and that's with what feel like quite high stats of ~7k morale and ~35% common mitigation so I can't imagine what it's like as one of the weaker creep classes.

Just resubbed for a month and started afresh on Laurelin. Am I missing anything if I don't have the expansion, apart from the new level cap and classes?

dont forget that common mitigation is really only usefull for tanking Npc's as most freeps have Beleriend,Ancient Dwarf or Light based dmg on most attacks/weapons.

what creeps need is 'devestating crit mitigations' which would halve a lot of the incomming damage.
Like you said as soon as your WL is targetted (which freeps should do before other classes) ie freeps have you on their Raid Assist Target running away bravely is the only option atm, but usually your dead before you have a chance.

i think i read that we will also get about 5secs of CC immunity now, so insta chain mezzing, rooting or stuns wont work ... although 5secs isnt that much well have to see if in practice its of any use..

last nights party consisting of too many green/blue rings ;-

How did the new card work out? Im playing on a 8800GTS 320mb at the moment and it takes a while for all the stutters to settle down, so im thinking a 1gig 4870 might be the way to go...

We're getting those crit mitigations in book 7 actually as far as I know. A built-in passive boost that's being added to all creeps, a small bonus that comes from your armour value and two new corruption traits. They might only total to about 5-10% knowing how the devs think but it's something at least. What you said about the common mitigation though, that never occurred to me...damn. :p

Nice pic btw, I was surprised that we actually won that battle.

Grrr just got the game on my desk and trying to activate it and it keeps telling me that my activation code is invalid.

i gather you have created a COG account on the codemasters site and can at least sign into that ? once logged in send a ticket to support, they usually reply promptly

yeah were getting some kind of crit mits in the update , but what also grieves me is that a lot of the more useful skills updates are for r10 and beyond, pretty much useless for another few years at my rate of infamy gain lol!!

Moria itself and Eregion, what I've seen of them so far is pretty spectacular.

I'm not sure if you can use any of the legendary items without the expansion, I think they all start over level 50 - cool items that level themselves and and can be customised.
