Hi all,

I need to get some tyres and was looking at some part worns due to the price (bit broke atm).

My original tyres are 185 65 r14's. The shop said they dont have any that size, but do have 4 matched 195 65 r14's.

Will these be ok or are they talking rubbish?

Thanks
Paul

Yes it also states that 2.5% is as a "MAXIMUM" value, you could also leave yourself open to issues such as rubbing the tyres in the arch and the speedo will be out etc.

Just fit the correct sized tyres if you can't afford to do this then perhaps you should re-think car ownership.

Is there any limit to the pikeyness of part warn tyre places?

'Yo mate how about these totally different used worn tyres lol just fit em'

Buy proper tyres, they are not expensive as this thread has demonstrated to you :)

Stop being *****, buy a set of Hydragrips - it will cost less than £200 fitted for that lot and having put an MR2 around the Nurburgring on a set, you can't go better for the money.

Part-worn tyres is the height of ***** and tbh, you're playing with fire.

You guys really up yourselves arent you. I already knew fox was but I didnt realise he had infected others!

The fact that I cant afford brand new tyres at the moment and need something to tie me over doesnt mean im a *****. Its better than running around on slicks.

It was a simple question which need either a 'Yes it will be fine as long as its on all 4 wheels, but its not ideal' or 'No they're talking rubbish it will be dangerous/will not fit'

To be fair I was calling the tyre place ***** not you. Although now I think about it, if you cant afford to buy new tyres can you really afford to run a car? It's worrying how many people think car ownership is a right and then drive around in badly maintained cars on 10 quid tyres because they are skint.

Perhaps garage it for a bit and use the bus?

Have you actually used public transport? If it was economically viable, then I would be happy to use the bus.

edit: fair enough to fox, you didnt call me a ***** but Kitchster_uk did

I have, and its not ideal, I agree. But it seems using a car isn't economically viable either so... *shrug*

Surely if part worns were that bad they would be illegal for garages to sell?

It should be.

Part worns are only good if you want to replace a spare and don't fancy forking out for a new tire. I'm sorry to be blunt but if you can't afford anything more than £15 a tire then what do you do if your brakes need replacing and stuff like that? At the end of the day it's your call, but at least get the right size for the car.

Change the tyres on your car when you bought it did you? They were "part worn".

Get some part worns in the right size and it should be fine.

However with a tyre this small its going to cost you a fair bit in comparison to the new tyre cost on the actual fitting of them so think about getting them new too!

No, but they were fitted in pairs and they have even wear. You can't guarantee how those part worms have been treated and if they have even wear and tread pattern. Don't make such a silly remark. If any tyres have to go on my car I will make sure they are new, the cost of fitting these days is pretty high, why do i want to mess about changing part worns every few months when i can just get a set of new ones. It's a false economy.
