This is my first post, so I hope this is the right section. I have a friend who I convinved to buy Left 4 Dead. His system is fairly old, about 4 years, but he does have an old geforce 7300 LE. He struggles to run Lef 4 Dead, and gets a lot of ingame lag, so he's looking to upgrade his graphics card.

He doesn't want to spend much money though, so he came to me & asked what I thought of an ATI 2600HD for £20

I'm not really familiar with ATI cards, but I could tell that it was two generations old, so I advised him to get one of the geforce 9500s off your site.

The problem is he has a stock 305 watt PSU and he's not sure he'd have enough voltage to power one of those cards. Does anyone here know a cheap solution? Again my friend doesn't have a lot of money to spend, the only reason he got Left 4 Dead was because of teh sale :p

With a budget of 20 quid, he's not going to really be making much of an improvement tbh. A mid ranged card is more like £80. But that 2600 may just be able to play l4d on it's lowest settings. I'd steer clear of those nvidia's if I were you LOL!

Btw welcome and enjoy ur stay!

For close to the price of the 9500 he could get a second hand 8800gts which would be miles better.

305w MAY cut it but it will be pushing it for a gts. I ran one on my old system for years with a cheap as hell £15 500w psu so he may need to budget for that.

oh and someones going to say it eventually so it may as well be me....... you'll need to remove the first link as it's against forum rules.

Thanks for teh quick response guys.

@shinster184:
He can already run Left 4 Dead on low, but the game lags when there's a lot of physics, or a tank spawns. I guess the 2600 shoudl be written off, but are the 9500s not really worth it?

@Clum:
Sorry I haven't read the forum rules yet, I'll make sure to do so next. I don't know anywhere to get second hand cards, would you be able to give some links (if its against the rules pm me or something).

I thought I should list more info on my mates PC specs:
Core 2 Duo 1.8GHz
1GB DDR2 Ram
Geforce 7300LE
305 Watt PSU

I got my friend to revive his figures, so now he's willing to spend an absolute maximum of €100. He changed his mind when he realised his PSU might not be able to power a newly upgraded card. But he'd still like to pay a lot less obviously :D.

Idealy he'd like to be able L4D on high at a smaller resolution, i.e. 1280 x 800.
