Hey,

Is it just me or does there seem to have been an explosion of followers on Twitter lately (see http://twitterholic.com/ )? Has Twitter just reached critical mass or is there something else I am missing?

I don't post from my account (so I wont bother giving its name) but do read online and with Twitterrific, mostly the Diggnation crew (Kevin Rose, Alex Albrecht, Prager and Glenn), Stephen Fry and ffoward, plus reading the odd other ones I find.

So how many of you are Twitter users? How do you use it (website, text, mobile, iPhone, twitterrific etc.)? Who do you follow? Whats your account name?

p.s for those of you scratching your tiny little minds read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twitter and here the homepage http://twitter.com/home

I don't use twitter because I don't see the point.

The 'explosion' of users might be down to everyone and his dog promoting it, Radio 1 were banging on about it 2 weeks ago, and haven't mentioned it since.

Moyles mentions it every morning.

I think Twitter is pointless personally.

I have never felt the need to use Twitter as hearing about what people have had for lunch E.T.C doesn't really interest me, I have a Facebook account which i hardly use but that is as far as i go, i'm usually out actually doing things instead of reading random peoples boring online diaries and rants about what they would like to do if they weren't stuck in updating their Twitter page. :)

Iv heard spearmint rhino have a few private rooms ;)

there is loads of women who always talk to you as well asking you to dance or something, not sure why. Must just be good management :/

I have some guy that used to be on GFW radio that uses his to post random pics, and also have all current members of G-Unit, handy as they use it to promote a freestyle or mixtapes.

Yet you read a thread about it on a computing forum? conceptually I dont see twitter as any different to a discussion forum, just using a different medium
Only small children and the largely technically illiterate and calvin harris use it to update their minute by minute activities, the majority of people use it to communicate something of interest to people who are interested in what they have to say, whatever that may be.

Bingo, in the end its just a shortform blog. I don't check updates religiously, once a week or so but a lot of the stuff that is posted is interesting, linking to things that I find cool, like these http://www.ohgizmo.com/2009/02/17/orbitwheels-are-like-a-monowheelinline-skate-mashup/ from Kevin Rose. But hey, some people don't like it, guess they havn't found a poster on there that they find interesting yet.

Twitter is obsolete for me now, all i need is facebook status updates. I know the two can work hand in hand but I just cant be bothered with it.

*Knub wakes up
*Knub is going for a shower and to beat one out
*Knub is updating his twitter/facebook/etc
*Knub is eating breakfast
*Knub is about to goto work
*Knub is on the M275
*Knub has arrived at work
*Knub is updating twitter/facebook/etc/again

This is how it goes for the most part, used by people with nothing better to do or interesting to write down. Grinds my gears.

I can see the uses for it though, people with genuine reasons for wanting to update their friends/family. Such as; people travelling, people with medical conditions, etc.

No it's not... unless the only people you follow are idiots

I don't bother with these things for the reason that some people cannot be trusted to put anything interesting down.

As I said, I can see why it's good under certain circumstances and why when used in the right hands it's a useful tool. I know some people use it to follow their favourite celebs/bands/whatever which can be interesting.

I was disputing you saying that's what it was like for the most part, when what it's like is completely decided by who you follow, combine that with it being follower-driven, i.e. you have to find the people you want to follow, if that's what it's like on the most part for you then you're doing something wrong, not twitter.
