A HDMI or An HDMI cable?

Dialects are not wrong - they are a side effect of introducing a standard language over a large area and as such are part of that language whether you like it or not.

The other one is sixth, most people pronounce it sicth, which I believe to be the correct way of saying it, whereas some people pronounce it sixth, which is wrong I know, but everyone still knows what you mean.

I say sixth even though I know it's wrong, I'll always say sixth, sicth sounds wrong to me.

I'm assuming he is commenting on the difference between sick-thuh and sicks-thuh (with less emphasis on the thuh than I point out :p).
 
I mean sick'th and six'th, pronouncing a ck sound as in sick or an x sound as in six. I say six but with a th on the end.

Easy to do when you can "pass" with a string of Ds and Es.

When I went to school, anything less than a C was a failure. Now it seems there is no way to fail, even if you're functionally illiterate and never bother to learn anything.
 
I am truly grateful for HDMI cables.

I was once asked "Do scarf cabaws work wif digicall tv's?" I faced palmed, and just walked away from the customer.

Bristolian is truly shocking at times.
 
I would say "an HDMI" in an informal setting, "a HDMI" in a more formal setting such as work. I would write "a HDMI" since I always expand the abbreviation.

I usually get these things wrong though :p

Also not related to above, I've seen in news articles and such, they sometimes put "an hotel" which I always think of as wrong.

Also, re: "An UFO" is wrong.. phonetically it is "a yew eff oh"
 
Its blatantly "An" because of the pronunciation of the "H" which would be "ay-tch", i.e. a vowel like sound. If there's a technical name for it then its that.

What about people who say hay-tch?

In that case it doesn't have a vowel sound so there for it would be A or ay.
