So starting Saturday, the best week of the year was going to happen.

Out at a high-class Mayfair club for my mate's Bday on Sat night, dinner at a michelin starred restaurant on Sunday, going on my first date with a lady I am getting along with brilliantly on Wednesday, and then I'm djing out in Soho on Thursday. I also have Monday and Friday booked off.

So it was going to rock!

Then today, big departmental meeting, and we are all getting made redundant, FFS!

Been here for 4 years, so at least 6 weeks redundancy pay, and a 3 months consultation period, but it still sucks major arse! :(

:(

Back of the line I'm afraid mate. Best to cut down on the lifestyle expenses till you're back on your feet again.

Best of luck.

enjoy your week, worry about it after

This is why I'm not telling any of my friends until after the parties and stuff, I don't want to dampen the celebrations.

On the silver-lining side, the company is in no way competitive in pay terms, and I've only stuck around as I really like the people I work with and know the company really well.

Onwards and upwards, but given the climate, new jobs aren't as easy to secure as they would have been a few years back.

Sorry to hear your news. What's a consultation period?

When a company makes a significant number of people redundant they have to go through a consultation period where they attempt to show that the decision is made fairly without any prejudice or pre judgment. Normally in reality they just fix the paper work so that those they wanted gone are gone, while everyone else spends weeks stressing.

This.

It allows for representatives of those being laid off to challenge things, but it's very rare that anything comes from it.

Gotcha, thanks. My district managers are currently going through this with some of our cleaners (much to the client's disgust and my trepidation).

Yep, that's the way our company does it too.

As said, enjoy the week buddy :)

I got made redundant back in October...I was going away on a holiday the day after my last day :p Booked to goto Barcelona and thing's...But nevermind.

Sorry to hear about it though, it's not a nice feeling.

Could be the best thing that ever happened to you. You get 6 weeks paid which, if you find another job, will allow you to take a break for a month and go travelling. You may also land a better paid job and meet even more people that you enjoy working with. Redundancy is far from always a negative thing, especially if you do your best to me it a positive thing.

Sorry to hear about the job but I hope the week still goes well and that you find something else soon. Trying to be positive it could be an opportunity to move onto bigger and better things.
