160kg Woman Forced to pay for second Seat

Since when is water retention equal to fat?

And what? 100Kg of water retention? Bloody hell I'll plumb her into my house and stop paying Yorkshire water for the rest of the year!

Its not..and since when were we talking about 100kg?

That last bit was tongue in cheek. But my point stands- water retention!=fat!

The distinction between weight and fat is not one that is fair to make in this situation. Although you did state fat in your post...presumably for this exact reason. So i will bow to you in the case of heart disease...Its weight gain but not fat gain.

lol

you lot make it sound so simple...none of you have actually experienced it of course.

I have, and yes it's hard work, but it's entirely possible. I went from approx 18st 3 years ago (I'm only 5'11") down to about 11st, which I have maintained now for over a year. I didn't have a thyroid problem, or any of that *****, I simply ate too much of the wrong sort of food and didn't do enough exercise.

The key to it is that it requires "effort" and "willpower", two reasons why there are so many; a) fat people and b) smokers - because these qualities seem to be in decline. They were for me, I just didn't really care...until I started having other health problems (back + allergies) and decided to get myself sorted out.

A few years of simply eating well and 5-a-side and now I'm back down to where I was when I was 18 and I still eat pretty much what I used to - I just keep up with the exercise. As for people with "large frames" - I think if you are deliberately large, caused by excessive pie intake, you should pay extra. If you are accidentally/inadvertently large you should not. Harsh, but there you go.

:)

5'11 and 18st3 is not in the same league as the woman in question. You were a big bloke, but you werent massively obese.

What if you are deliberately large caused by excessive protein intake and lifting lots of large weights?

I am 6ft and just over 16 stone from weightlifting and boxing. I wouldnt pay for the second seat, i would just rip out the armrest. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :D

Yes, it's fair. I was on a Ryanair flight yesterday, along with an enormous lady who must have been a similar size to the woman in question. She was so big that the standard seatbelt couldn't contain her and the cabin crew had to give her one of the seatbelts they use for the safety demonstration in order that she could buckle it between the normal one.

She could just about squeeze into the seat, but I pitied the person forced to sit next to her. I was also annoyed that I was limited by Ryanair's paltry 15kg baggage allowance when this woman weighed at least 60kg more than me.

I bet Ryanair start charging people like her. Judging by the media coverage about them charging to use the toilet, they clearly don't give a damn!

They should have a weigh in at the airport and base ticket prices off that, over a normal weight, they should start adding it on as baggage allowance :D

I was clinically obese, yes.

It's not about being in the same league - I lost almost 50% of my body mass over the space of almost 3 years, I'd say that was pretty drastic, non?

It doesn't negate all the other points I made, which you (of course) ignored - because they go against what you are saying.

Yes, I agree that it's not easy, but no way, NO HOW is it impossible.

Maybe this is the motivation that fat people need to finally get off their flabby sore-riddled behinds and do something about it.

As for weight-builders, etc - if you had read my statement you'd already know the answer. If it's deliberate, you pay for it.

:)

Yes its nothing to turn your nose up at..You lost a decent amount of weight..but dont kid yourself into thinking you had the same problems as the morbidly obese. At 18st3, you wouldnt take up 2 seats...To be the size to take up 2 seats, playing 5 a side is an impossibility, as are most other forms of exercise. Possibly including something as simple as walking.

I didnt address the effort and willpower because thats pretty obvious and correct. Why would I address the parts I agree with?

Your statement said if you were were deliberately large as a result of pies.

Medical conditions, genetic predispositions, medication. To name but three.

Not to mention it isn't anywhere as easy as "stop eating" for most people. You try not breathing for 20 minutes - that's close to how they 'feel'. I appreciate it is a simple case of stop eating to an outsider, but obesity is close to alcoholism etc.

That aside, it's human choice to be whatever size you want, indeed obesity has been previously celebrated in an individual.

I find it alarming how someone in the thread said it was fine for a weightlifter to be that big - and not have to pay extra - but the fat person has to? So it's not about size then.

Not that I wouldn't be annoyed if she was sat next to me :)

Stop being an idiot.

I am fat and alcoholic. If I take up two seats on a plane then I wouldn't be offended if they told me I had to pay for two! I am fat because I eat too much and don't exercise, there is no excuses.

he said weight not size a big muscly fella could weigh that much but not spill his flubber all over your arm wrest.

OK, if you want to be pedantic:

"deliberately large as a result of <insert food items/sporting activity of your choice here>" - be that Creatin/Pies/Chocolate/whatever.

Better?

At over 18st I definitely took up more than one train seat. I couldn't play 5-a-side to start with, I had to start with just walking, which I did for 6 months until I was down to about 14st (most dramatic loss occurs early on), then I started playing 10 mins of 5-a-side a day to shed the other 3 stone.

The morbidly obese who cannot move, possibly should not be flying - if you are too fat to walk then you have far more worrying concerns than being charged for two seats on an airplane...you should consider some sort of surgery stomach-bypass effort, imo.

She managed to get to the airport, she could walk [it doesn't mention she's wheelchair bound], therefore she CAN exercise, she CAN eat less calories, she CAN get thinner. The End.

have you any idea how wide a 150kg bodybuilder would be the shoulder? or how large his arms would?

Arnold in his prime was around 110kg...Ronnie was like 135 or so..

can you imagine sitting next to this in economy class? I think you underestimate the size of muscle.
