Ideas please - £2k limit, what shall I buy? Other than an e36?

Presumption is a great thing, perhaps you should learn the full circumstances before shouting your mouth off?

You followed the usual trend as layed out by Skeeter:

1) Decide what car it is you want.
2) Post a thread asking advice anyway
3) Dismiss all suggestions that arent what you have already chosen
4) Abuse those who dissagree with you
5) Go out and buy the car you decided on in the first place
6) Year later, post thread complaining how rubbish your car is

Now with you unemployed you can't afford to fix your nail of a car and your coming back down to earth with something much, much cheaper to run.

Do you have a problem with me, add me to MSN and we can discuss it instead of you randomly throwing your handbag out?

I didn't make any thread for an E46 ever. Again you must be presuming this. I've said the car has been great even with the prevelant issues it's still not a rubbish car. For the record I don't need to sell the car I can keep it, I'm only selling it because of the oil consumption which I don't want to keep on top of anymore and want something a bit more reliable, rg-tom also has a similar oil issue does that make his car a nail as well?

and I'd much rather a 'nail' of a BMW as you so kindly put it than be extremely unhappy with myself in a fully working 106.

It seems a bit radical to take a several thousand pound depreciation hit on your car because buying £8.99 worth of oil every 500 miles is annoying you?

No, but you defended it to the death, will you continue? I think you will.

I'm not talking about the E46 320i model I'm talking about the fact that yours should be reclasified to a diesel for it's oil usage.

So you can't afford it, basically.

You're so far off the mark trying to diagnose my mental state. We've got a job opening up for Help desk support if you're interested.

Why not just get to the bottom of why its using oil? My car used 2 litres of the stuff in 1500 miles because the garage used fully synth instead of semi synth. Seems radical to sell a car you like because it uses a bit of oil

Quite, some people don't see that though. :)

As for the OP. Isn't the 323i just a crap newer version of the 325i with the same running costs as the 328i...or am I thinking of the e46 engines?

Yes, It's just had a major service at the dealership including AUX belts

Why are you presuming things when you don't have a clue about my circumstances or finances

Of course I could sort the oil consumption out but it could be so many different things by the end of it I may aswell have bought a new engine to bung in there.

You're so far off the mark

Irony. You did the same with Morba and now me, you're starting to make yourself look like a..

So when you sell it, are you going to mention when advertising it that it uses a fair bit of oil and may need work or are you hoping some sucker will come along, take the car from you and then foot the bill? Didn't you buy your car from a dealer? Why don't you go back to the dealer and kick up a fuss and have them sort it for you.

Do that then. They aren't particularly expensive, and the job isn't particularly complex.

Could even upgrade to a bigger engine :p

I'm a wuss with big jobs like that, i'm the guy that would make the cups of tea while watching making useless comments :p

Obviously not that common if you still bought a car with that engine and selling it because of it's oil consumption

It's common, I suggest you put "oil consumption" into most BMW based owners forums and watch as a pleathora of results are turned out.

Fox will back me up when the M54B22 is the worst for such consumption even from new. Can we get the thread back on topic for R420LA6X2/4MNA this thread is not supposed to be about me and my car that I may or may not be selling..

I'm not disputing that fact. My point is were you aware of this issue when you bought it?

Obviously not.

"Can I keep the car for 400-500 miles just to see how much oil it consumes and then bring it back"

"Yea sure "

Thought your car had been rebuilt anyway, Tom?

Only the top end.

Cheers anyway Muffin. I'm having second thoughts now :D

Out of interest (because one possibility for my next motorway hack will have an M54B** in it) how bad has it got? Both of my previous M54's were fine, didnt use much if any really. One of them had 100+k on it too (wolfchild now runs this car).
