What headset under £50?

^ That's what I and many others have, but I don't think you can get this setup for £50 new. Certainly not anywhere I looked. Even second hand prices on ebay are steep for the HD5xx.

I'm thinking of these, reviews say the sound quality is very good, but not much about the mic quality.

Thanks.

I bought these for on-line gaming and i haven't been disappointed at all

The reviewers and luckless losser clearly have not heard better. The apple ibuds free with an ipod seem to satsfy most because they have never heard better :p

Go for some goldrings or senn 555 with clip on mic. You will then own something that is also stunning for music, good for movies, and does gaming really well, ratehr than a headset that does nothing well in the slightest !

as above, don't get a gimmicky '5.1' or 'gaming' set.

get Sennheiser/Grado/Goldring and the 'elara clip on mic'

i have the HD595's (hd555 is more like £50) and they rock

without trying to look like a know-it-all ******, the only people who recommend gaming/5.1 sets are new members who don't know any better

Clip on mic?

Oh, and i've not heard any better, I use atm Sennheiser HD201.
And lacking a microphone is annoying in games like L4D when typing can = death.

Also a user of the elara clip on mic, works just nicely and cheap too.
I fell for the '5.1' Medusa headset a few years back, very...meh, alright i guess, but nothing special. Have a pair of Goldring DR100's now, much better sound / build quality.

Not for me it isn't, all zombies and special zombies are killed DEAD before I type :D

The clip on elara mic can just sit under your monitor, ontop of it etc and people have reported good results on here. Haven't ordered mine yet. O and whats soo bad witha desktop mic if it really comes to it, as long as it's configured and people can hear you in game, all is good.

I spent two hours just listening to MP3s through my HD555s last night. I haven't spent that long just listening to music since I got my car stero five years ago. They sound fantastic.

Right then, i'm gonna order some Seinheiser 555s and a elara clip on mic.
They cost in total £10 over my budget but i'm sure its worth it for them.

Any comments about this?

Oh, and how does the clip-on mic connect to the headphones?
