Heya

I currently have a X1900XT which I'm just about happy with although it's showing it's age.

The USB hub went in my (excellent) NEC Multisync 202GX & they're upgrading me to a 24 inch model as they have none of mine left (lucky me :)).

The trouble is I think my X1900XT will now struggle at 1900x1200. I was thinking about replacing it with a Geforce 9800GTX+.

Any alternatives I should consider for around the £120 mark apart from the Radeon 4850?

Ta peeps!

9800gtx+ and 4850 are very similiar in performance i would go for 9800gtx+ but just because i preffer nvidia to ati :)

At £120 there are only two cards worth considering, the 4850 and 9800gtx+. A good make 4850 is the faster/better card

Depending on what quality settings you play games its probobly worth spending the extra and getting a 4870 at that res

I've seen a lot of used HD4850's sell around the £85 mark, if your one of those types that always have good luck when buying second hand then a "One Previous Owner" card could be the ticket!

If more power was required and at the £120 price point I would be hunting down a used HD4870! :p

thats awful customer services, frankly the 20" gx2 is the single greatest gaming tft ever made, according to basically anyone thats ever used one. THe 24" WMGX3, its ok, but its not even close to as fast as the old one. I'd be peeved if it was me.

But you could always run the same res using 1:1 scaling option with the excess area running black borders. Or let it upscale and see how it does.

4850/4870 would do you good, 4870 might struggle more with aa/af settings due to quite a bit lower mem bandwidth, but its still an admirable card at that res. To be honest in any newer game a 4850 will do FAR better at 1920x1200, than a x1900xt would be doing at 1680x1050 res you were using before, if you see what I mean. its not the best card ever, but with same quality settings it will almost certainly give you more fps at the higher res, than the old card at the lower res.

Yeah that's the one. It's worth giving 'em a buzz (0870 120 1160). You'll need your serial number & when/ where you bought it from. You can get the serial from the OSD rather than tipping it upside down & trying to read a long number in tiny digits.

I've had a slight problem with it for a while. It i'll post some screenys later. It looks almost like my screen is stained, i've got a dark vertical line on the left had side and a horizontal line across the top. Its not got worse but i paid £400 plus Oct 2006 i think. It can get a bit annoying when playing a game with bright colours.

What screen did you get as a replacement ? i'm awaiting a replacement gfx from bfg as that died as well :o

tbh, i'm scared to try a high quality LCD

as far as i know, my S2409W is perfect -ignorance is bliss :)

Hmmm - did you seriously get a replacement monitor because the usb devices no longer worked in your Multisync 20WGX2?

I have this monitor and as far as I know the USB ports have never worked (just tested again but plugging any USB device into the back or side ports and no life)

I bought the thing ages ago, probably a few years back, what's the waranty like on these? would it be worth trying to get a replacement? :P

Interesting :)

The 3 year warranty on mine is up in October. I've had a problem with it for a few months, with the actual screen having some discoloured areas which stand out a lot in bright coloured games.

SpinyNorman - How are you finding your new screen compared to the GX2 ? and how long did NEC take to sort you out?

Yup :)

Could be, it's 3 years.

Alrighty, I phoned them up and they are sending me a replacement for delivery on friday, they will then collect my old one on monday next week.

So worst case scenario - I get another 20WGX2 screen with working USB ports. hopefully without dead pixels or discolouration etc...

Best case scenario - They send me an upgrade :P

I checked my emails and I ordered this on march 10 2006 so i'm only just in my 3 year waranty period!

Quality. So they are sending you a replacement without even looking at your old one ?

I've been meaning to get in touch with Nec for months about mine. Not bad though Eulogy, sending you a replacement in two days!
