Hi,

My question is:

Why do you believe in your religion?

Was there an event that made you believe, Were you brought up believing, etc?

I don't intend to start a flame war / whatever, I am just curious.

Thanks

Daven

I believe in Sikhism because, unlike other religions, Sikhs believe there is one god, regardless of your religion, colour, race or whatever. That is why you will never see a Sikh man try to convert someone. We believe women and men are equal. Just as is other creatures of God. We try to look after Earth, Water and Air as best we can because they are the fundamentals of life. :)

Do I have an imaginary friend? No. Do I believe in Darwinism? Yes. Am I then contradicting myself? Probably. But, I like my religion because it brings the best out of me. :)

My mum says I am a Christian, yet I have never been Christianed. I feel that I do not believe in any religion, I feel I can live my life without it. - When forms ask, I normally tick Christianity, however, I have never read the bible, and never been to church since I was... No idea how old I was.

I personally a religion is there to help people mentally, yet I feel it can cause problems too.

I always find that evolution and religion a funny set of sides that try to batter each other. Always think they're looking at very different things....

Being Christined doesn't make you a Christian! It's just a thing from the parents saying "Cheers for the Kid God, and can you help us bring him up well please? And bless him etc"

Repenting of your sins etc is what makes you a Christian (but there is the visible sign of Baptism that people do to show they've made the decision to live for Christ etc).

If you're happy with calling yourself a Christian then go for it but you're almost certainly old enough to make up your own mind in that regard, I don't think you've got to take your mum's word for it any more. :)

For the little it matters I'm not religious but think you should be free to believe in whatever you want - provided it doesn't interfere with the lives of others unduly.

I was christened, I'm an atheist/agnostic.

I used to be a born again Christian. I think for me it was seeing others peoples faith and how they seemed nice to each other.

It was just me in my family who was a Christian from about 13 til 18 or so. I'm not a Christian anymore but it's certainly made me who I am today.

I'm now agnostic as no one can say for certain whether there is a God or not and I believe it's narrow minded to say your beliefs are the absolute truth either way. I'll find out when i'm dead anyway.

I feel the below quote reflects my outlook on life now. Basically don't be an ass to everybody else and respect people. Bit of common sense really.

Aristole said:
I have gained this by philosophy: that I do without being commanded, what others do only from fear of the law.

i'm not sure anyone will be able to say WHY they believe in religion (or god) they just do (thats almost the point I think)

My question is:

Why do you believe in your religion? Cos ive i dont believe in god and their is one im royally screwed.
