Looks like my graduation ceremony will be bang smack in the middle of my planned month long biking trip to the alpes.

Those of you who have graduated, did you go to your ceremony?

Will i be missing out, or is it the norm to not bother going?

I've only been to one, could've went to like 4 lol

After the first one, i wasn't bothered with the others. One pic in a square hat is enough.

One of the most boring days of my life and having to do wearing them awful gowns made all the more depressing....skip it.

Get the gown, have piece of paper rolled up in hand, take photo.

It's like you've been there but haven't :)

I didn't go to mine.

Didnt see the point of spending £40 just for tickets, and having to rent a gown on top, as well as travel to get there, just to shake some dudes hand and get a piece of paper.

Only went because my parents wanted a damn graduation photo.

Didn't even have any decent clothes so turned up in a pair of jeans and nondescript black long-sleeve t-shirt. Got a lot of unimpressed sneers etc. from other stuck-up parents as I walked around.

Couldn't care though, the whole thing was a damn bore and I couldn't wait for it to be over so I could hit the pub.

I thought it was pointless. I only got a 2:2 for my degree, and I wasn't looking forward to it at all.

Then, half way through it, I finally realised that missing it would have been a big mistake. It was the culmination of three years of my life, attaining a qualification that most people don't have, regardless of grade. It felt worthwhile afterwards.

you won't miss the ceremony but you might want a photo for the family (my main reason of doing it all).
Wasn't impressed with mine as I (and the parents) felt my ceremony got shafted, Patrick Stewart (yes Jean Luc Picard) who was/is the chanceller at my old uni was supposed to do the presentation but we got some other random bloke, the afternoon group got PS, I wanted to see Jean Luc Picard!!

Seen as its likely to be the last time I will have seen a load of people from uni, and the fact mine was in a massive marque by the sea on a brilliant sunny day, im very glad I went to mine.

Silly hats and capes were not fun though

I didn't go to mine, didn't really know many of the people from that faculty (I did a combined honours) and was more interested in sleeping during the day during that period of my life. Would have been nice to get a graduation photo but that's about it.

My fiancee has recently graduated, so I'll go to her ceremony this year.

i wasn't in the country for mine. don't really regret it. it wouldn't have been worth the £20 they wanted per guest

Yeah, I have no idea why they put it there! Exams finish for the 1st of June. I'm going to Mauritius on the 1st and then wanted to carry on around the world but graduation is on the 6th of July :(

I have to go. I'm the first in my dad's side of the family to go to University and my friends will all be going.

I've been mountain biking in the Alps before and I've got my graduation in a few years.

I wouldn't want to be in your situation!

It's a tricky one!

My graduation is around lunchtime on July 6th... bah. Luckily straight law goes first so it should be over by 1 or 2. Can't really be bothered with it, but what can you do, the parents demand it!

Mine was crap and only went(as others have similarly pointed out) because of the photo(s). Then again, I missed getting first, dont have the money for masters and the degree did not(any visibly) help me acquire my job so I was a bit let down by the whole thing. On my way back(or I should rather call it "rushing back") home, I felt kinda weird for so coldly taking this day, especially considering that people with 2:2s looked happier than me.It was a bit like looking after something precious for ages, just to break it on purpose at the end.
