For those who are religious

I was raised Roman Catholic and was even taken to some sort of religious school every sunday or so when I was very young and now I'm an atheist, well, I'd prefer to say non believer.

Being older and of a less impressionable age I grew out of religion.

<Religion.....>but to give you faith and strength so you can do things for yourself.

That all probably sounds pretty wishy-washy to an atheist :D

It does sound wishy washy, you say it's so you can do things for yourself, as If you couldn't without believing? Are you that reliant on something else you can't think for yourself? I'm... taking this from you words.

It's just hard for me to accept you, a grown up person cannot find strength and sole purpose without making yourself believe something.

I just, do things for myself as I wish.

Agnostic Thank God;)

The reason that most people worship in a certain way or believe through a particular religion is more than likely cultural. There are those who make a conscious choice latter on in life to follow a certain religion but I believe they are in the minority.

Yes that is at least true in Europe, in southern states in the US they actually do believe a lot of this stuff.

Brought up muslim, but not really feeling it any more.

I was standing outside college with 3 friends, 1 guy and 2 girls, when two Muslim preachers with extremely dirty, curly penis pubes on their cheeks came up to me and asked, "are you muslim". I hastily replied, "Nah mate, I'm sikh". My friend however said "yes" - boy did he regret it. They then began preaching for 15 minutes about how girls are bad, sex is sin, talking is sin, looking is sin, if you accidentally glance at a girl don't look again or it's sin, etc. They also told him to step away from the girls otherwise he'll get double sin. And that he will go to hell if he doesn't come to their preaching session during Friday lunchtime.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I was like, Damn! These guys need a shave and a life.

Holy coconut batman! :p im not muslim im sikh but do you view all muslim preachers as "extremely dirty, curly penis pubes on their cheeks" I have some muslim freinds and not all are like that!

I'm agnostic, but the only 2 religions I actually like are Sikhism and Buddhism, due to the morality of how they function.

That's interesting but it's also assuming you have studied all religions with the same open mind?

I suggest an excellent book called the Transcendent Unity of Religion by Frithjof Schuon.

All religion comes from the same source and, at their root, more or less teach the same higher principles.

And since I doubt you were wearing a turban, they were idiots for not asking why.

I don't believe in any one religion but I do believe there is a spiritual aspect to existence, our consciousness and the human condition.

As far as God as a separate entity I really don't know, I tend to follow Pantheist beliefs which completely accept the scientific method, evolution etc.

The feeling of stillness and total peace which I have experienced through meditation as well as simply being out in natural beauty is what I class as my connection to God. I chase this feeling as often as possible and try to keep a calm and quiet mind in daily life so that I can tune into this stillness. In this state I feel at one with my surroundings and connected, the idea of death does not feel frightening at all, it would simply be like merging back into the either from which I once came.

Spirituality has without doubt made me a much more fearless, loving and considerate person.

i believe in Charles Darwin as a religion does that count :p

no i dont believe in one god or any god, religion has a lot to answer for IMO

I've not studied any in depth, but did have to go to a Christian high school.

I like the live and let live aspects of Sikhism and Buddhism, there's no looking down on others or pity or feeling the need to 'save' them.

Regardless of what they think of me as a person, a devout Catholic will believe that when I die, I will go to Hell or Purgatory as I don't believe in God.

I respect people's religions, as long as they respect my lack of one. ;)

Apathetic agnosticism at a push:

the view that there is no proof of either the existence or non-existence of any deity, but since any deity that may exist appears unconcerned for the universe or the welfare of its inhabitants, the question is largely academic anyway

Basically agree with:

Religion - A load of **** from a by gone era that somehow has positioned itself as something essential to modern life, indeed life in general.

Looking around our world, I see no sign of God.

Religion : Spawned by greed, which fed on people who didn't know any better

If any of the older religions such as christianity or islam were introduced today, and hadnt previously been seen, people would laugh at them in much the same was as scientology. However, theyve been around for so long that lots of people believe in them simply because of the history.
