best aa batteries to get ?

Best rechargable AAs I've got are some Ansmann NiMH ones. Picked them up a few years ago on the recommendation of someone who knew about these sorts of things.

Sanyo Eneloops for recharging (don't drain like usual rechargeables) you can get higher capacity ones but my choice is eneloop. Not sure on non rechargeables> Energizer I would think

Think it would depend wether you want long term constant current or 'spike' power, don't know which one is which but there the most common uses and some will be better for one more than the other.

I've always used high capacity uniross batteries for rechargeables, i forget how big the capacity is but they're silver and they last for yonks.

High capacity rechargeables are not all that good if the have a fast self discharge rate!
I tend to use either Uniross Hybrio or Sanyo Eneloop in my camera (Pentax K100D)

slight thread highjack, sorry!

so that's why my rechargeables are just dead when i come to use them like 2 weeks later, is there anything you can do to stop it?

oh and in my experience, non rechargeable energizers are nowhere near as good as the standard/procell duracell batteries

Yes, it is. Buy Eneloop, Hybrio, or the Vapex equivalents (which are cheaper but take care to get the right ones). They 'fix' that problem. Pair them with a decent charger (e.g. Ansmann) and you'll get good service out of them.

The higher the mAh the more charge they hold, lithium AA batteries are best if you can find them because they don't self discharge like Ni-Mh and hybrid ones do and have the best capacity, it's hard to find 1.5v rechargeable Lithium AA batteries though. Ni-Mh are the next best capacity rechargeable batteries, but have the highest self discharge rate, Hybrid ones have a lower self discharge rate but also a significantly lower capacity, best non rechargeable batteries next to lithium are Alkaline, which have the best capacity and negligible discharge rate, if you want batteries for something that you don't use regularly, I would get alkaline or lithium batteries, as even the hybrid batteries discharge too quickly for reliable use in something like a torch.

Generally,

High drain devices = Ni-Mh
Medium drain devices = Hybrid
Low drain devices = Alkaline
Devices in storage = Alkaline

With lithium being the best for any use, they are expensive though!

Reading through this thread, has made me think (now that I need batteries); Which is better: Sanyo Eneloop, or Hybrio batteries. I'll be using them in what some people would call 'medium drain' devices.

Last time I looked eneloop had the edge, but those batteries mentioned above will all be fine. Uniross or Eneloop, thay are more expensive than other batteries but worth it imo

I use Ansmann 2700mAh AA NiMH batteries and a Digispeed 4 charger. These babies keep their capacity charge after charge, used with camera gear. Still have some 2100mAh ones, they get used in radios.

I used AA hybrio batteries on my SLR pentax K100D. Took 1000 (yes 1k) shots while I was on holiday before it runs flat. Had about 50 shots in it with flash too.
