The new ride ...

Yea, one day we'll be less thrifty and purchase a 1.3 litre diesel with low road tax

There's more to a car than engine size and engine type. Some people really aren't bothered by the engine and performance.

Personally I think the Punto is actually a great car considering its price. I test drove one last summer (1.4 T-Jet) and whilst it wasn't quick, the interior was surprisingly nice for such a cheap car and it wasn't bad looking either.

Just don't assume everyone else has the same "petrolhead" enthusiasm for cars that you do! :)

Are you a girl? or have girl size feet?
My mum had the version before this and i had to drive it with the side of my feet or id hit both the brakes and the accelerator with my size 12 clown feet :(
Btw make sure you dont use the horn i hit my mums one 1 once it wouldnt shut up till i pulled the cables out of the horn it self.

Hehehe

Unfortunately (for the persons buying) there's never going to be much of a positive response to this sort of thread. Or at least not as positive as said person would like, I suspect. This would probably be because most people here love the motor car.

LoL don't worry about Fox, he's just trolling again ;)

I do have size 12's chumpit, maybe I am just more accurate with them :p

Wrong engine and wrong amount of doors.

This is the only Punto I'd buy.

Well done on spending 10k to save a few hundred.

I FAIL* to see how I am incorrect. The car needed a major service which would have costed £800 MAX, yet they spend 10k on a car with a tiny engine to save money. They'll need to own it for about 10 years for it to pay for itself. Alternatively he could have brought a more suitable vehicle used and actually saved some money, I don't know about you but if I had two kids I'd want something bigger than a Punto.

*emphasis on fail seems everyone on the internet loves this word.

That is such a pathetic comment

I'd expect nothing less from you. You like to disagree with me for the sake of it.

I actually happen to like the new Fiats, however in my head I couldn't justify spending that money because I had a car that needed some work. But this is my opinion and if the chap is happy with his purchase then it's not my issue.

My cousin bought one of these brand new too, it broke down 4 times in the two weeks (might even have been one week I think). Electrical faults I think, but afaik Fiat couldn't find anything wrong. Funny thing is I told them that would happen, although I never thought it'd be that bad. Not sure how it's been since they swapped it for a different Punto.

I stopped at the VW dealer on the way home tonight. Mrs Mad Rapper and I are still thinking about swapping our A3 for a newish Passat. The dealer had an 07 Passat 2.0 TDi Estate with 23K for £10900.

With respect, I think that would have been far more suitable for you and your family, but as others have said, if you're happy then that's all that matters.

No offence mate but you're 21 and I'm willing to bet the only box a car has to tick for you is performance and boy-racer approval. This chap bought a car to transport his wife and kids from A to B, and if he wants to spend money on a brand new car and he can afford to do so then fair play. He probably doesn't care about the engine or performance, more so the Punto is a nice looking car that I can imagine would also get the wife's approval. Funnily enough people do actually buy brand new cars, if they didn't then people like you and I would not have the privilege of driving at all so be grateful.

Take my mum for example. She just bought a brand new Mini Cooper for delivery in April. I explained that for the same price she could get a 12 month old Cooper S. She didn't give a crap because she likes the car, she wouldn't really care if it had a 1.2 litre engine in it. The Cooper has all the bits and bobs that she wants. Just because I personally disagree with her purchase decision it doesn't mean I come out with pathetic statements like "OMG FAIL"

If I had two kids, a Compact hatchback would be at the bottom of my list. Even if I wasn't interested in performance I'd still want a bigger car, hell I can't even get a weeks shopping for three people in the back of a Focus so how will they fare with two kids? What happens if they have a 3rd kid? They'll need to sell it and waste a whole lot of money in depreciation for something bigger.

I didn't say this, my argument had a bit of backbone rather than some muppet who can just reply to my comment with "Fail" and doesn't even bother to make a decent counter arguement.
