Watchmen

Just been to see this, enjoyed it, was pretty deep engrossing storyline, very stylish and brilliantly filmed.

Sex scene was indeed a bit of a wierd one.

Great to see a giant blue willy on the screen though!. cant knock that hahaha

Good read. I was planning on doing a little essay myself comparing 300 and Watchmen to show how differently Synder approached the two novels' structures and pacing, capturing and altering the theme and essences of the two stories. Meanwhile contrasting it to Robert Rodriguez's Sin City adaptation.

I absolutely agree that it's not a "classic" film, but it's a fine adaptation of the graphics novel.

Just came back from seeing this. Although I did strugle with the story, and If you arent a fan, or have any prior knowledge of the story (like me) I can see it being a challenging watch, but from a cinematic perspective it was an excellent film.

I thought it was one of the worst films I've ever seen. The story was incredibly slow to develop and for how the film was advertised there was a lot less action than expected. The backstreet fight and prison scenes were ok, although overly graphic, imo. The sex scene was verging on hilarity. This was dubbed as on par with The Dark Knight by a review a read, I feel that the films could not be at further ends of the scale from one another.

3/10

I personally think it makes Dark Knight look childish and ameteur, and I liked Dark Knight.

Amateur is a harsh term to use, The Dark Knight had to cater to a wider audience as an action hero movie. Watchmen doesn't bear that obligation and was able to go all the way with the exploration of the darker side of humanity that's all.

Much as I respect Synder's directions, I can't help but feel that he's rather obsessed with violence and gore (big surprise considering he propelled himself into stardom with Dawn of the Dead).

A lot of on-screen violence in Watchmen could have been off-screen like they were in the comic. I can't confirm this since I haven't read the book in a while, but majority of the "on-screen" violence in the book were shown on characters we've gotten to know (the Comedian, Silk Spectre, Moloch, the guy guys cutting into Rorschach's cell etc). The demise of the thugs and criminals (the butcher, the canteen prisoner) were all done off-screen in the book.

The butcher was set on fire in the book. It sort of half shows you Rorschach splitting their heads open, but he left the guy to die in a burning building.

The canteen bit was very much in the book also, and was a part I was actually looking forward to seeing. The bit where Nite Owl and Silk Spectre stormed the prison though, that's all off screen.

I just ordered the comic from the River, would it be wise to read it first or watch it this weekend before reading it?

I'm new to this but after watching the trailer, I'm intrigued.

I started reading it on the way to work this morning with an aim to finish it before i go to see it on wednesday :)

Saw this last night, must say i thought it was pretty pants.

Only reason I understood some of it was because I read the article in the Metro paper last week.

Seems like you need to have read the comic to understand it properly.

Too much blue wang on screen... although it was worth watching for the bird to get her kit off.

I'd say read the book first, just so you know what kind of a superhero comic book it is before going to see it like me and expecting an X-Men type film and being left confused and unsure whether you liked it or not

To comment on this, I think too many people are going to see this as a typical superhero film, DC comics are well known for being darker than say Marvel.

I don't understand how people fail to follow a film which was based (loosely) on the cold war front between the USA and USSR.

I'm not old enough to remember the Cold War nor was it covered at school so I know very little about it.

I grasped the basic idea of the film, nuclear war and all. I suspect your right that most people will see it as simply a super hero film though.

Agreed with Kahn, I was kinda expecting a standard superhero film as I had no clue about the film before I saw it.

Although I had to quickly readjust my expectations as DC films are a lot darker and in this case and I soon realised it wasn't going to be what I was expecting.

Still thought it was a cracking film though and to all of you who are flaming the sex scene; nothing wrong with a bit of nudity (especially involving Laurie Jupiter) :)
