You should have entered the tournament, there will most likely be another one soon so keep an eye out. I also play as Sagat, add me for some games.

just added you maybe we can set up a game sometime

also it appears you reached the semis of the tournament :(

might have bitten off more than i can chew

just go easy on me :(

I dont want to tarnish the existing Tournament thread but Im considering the next one and I had a thought which I wanted to share...

Do you think it might be a good idea that when we do have it, when we do have multi-matches in the round that each player has to use a different character for each of the match within that round? Personally Id like each round to be multi-matches, its just too quick otherwise, especially if you lose :p

What I mean is say it was best of 3 matches for a Semi, instead of people just using 1 sole character for that round (its irrelevant if theyve used them in earlier rounds) they have to use 3 different characters. To me it means that a more highly skilled fighter would do better since rather than just being good with just one character they would have to learn 3 - it also adds a bit of tactics where you have to decide when to use your best character...

What do you guys think? Hopefully the tournament add-on turns up to allow us to validate character changes, though I very much doubt the players themselves wouldnt adhere to the rules...

I was playing Jonny yesterday and was happily beating him with Ryu, but when I tried other players (him staying as Ryu) I realised how average I am with certain characters. It would be an incentive for me to learn more than 1 character if I thought Id have to use such tactics in a tournament. I can also imagine a lot of people trying to get around it by using similar characters though :p

Sounds anti-competitive to me, neutering the players with one main to allow the more casual player to have more of a chance. If those rules were in effect I wouldn't bother entering as it defeats the point of a tournament to find the best player.

Problem with your plan pseudo is that it would discourage players, including myself, as we want to be as best as we can and the only real way to do that is to play solely as one character.

Is the current tournament format 3 games of 3 rounds or 1 game of 3 rounds? I'd prefer the former in the next tournament (if there is one) as 3 rounds just isn't enough to get to grips with some players.

Interesting points - I guess Ive always considered the best player is the one that can adapt his play and play with a set of characters (say like the Decathlon) whereas you guys feel the best player is the one that can (only?) exploit you just via 1 character and completely understands him inside out (like the 100m sprint). Agreed the 1 character player would be very proficient and undoubtably better than the the 'jack of all trades, master of none' person with that single character but would be out of his depth with anything else...

Surprised though you would be discouraged to enter if such a rule existed - to me playing something like SF4, anything to make me try other characters and get competent with them is a bonus. Just playing as one sole character kinda reduces the fun element for me or even the games longevitity...

Also Im very confused why you think it would be an advantage to the casual player and ergo a disadvantage to the euthasist. It would be a grateful challenge for me to get good with numerous characters where a hidden advantage would be learning their weaknesses that I could exploit with my main - half the battle is knowing how to exploit your opponents moves/delays/weaknesses...

Indeed Im very surprised...

I am just average, I seem to have found an easy route to the semi's avoiding the main threats (cav and ojste) plus I got a by. :p

I play to win, and although I currently play 5 characters I will eventually settle on one and attempt to master them.

In pretty much all competitive games a player will only play as one character when they are playing their best, but I' not sure why you feel it means you can't understand each character inside out if you don't play as them in tournaments =/

To me it's adding artificial restrictions like "no-rush" in RTS games or "no AWP" in CSS. It just limits people from being the best they can be and gives lesser players more chance to luck out on a character draw.

I totally agree with the viewpoint - jsut surprised that what should really be a fun tournament doesnt seem to be taken lightly - seems people are getting quite competitive for limited reason ;). If the games were ranked matches then thats a different story...

LOL @ the play to win statement :D

you just said it yourself with that analogy and thats why most people would be against it...

you should improve your main character rather than forcing people to use others they may not want to :p

the best player is the one who can adapt the quickest but not with a set of characters, its within the match itself.

I always play to win, unless I'm team killing Alrik or Krono, as it's what I enjoy. I find a 32 man tournament on here is worth winning much more than beating random people on ranked matches but I appreciate that others will feel differently.

Every moment i play as someone other than abel is a moment wasted where i could have learned something new of him. The fact i've concentrated very heavily on learning and understanding how to use him to exploit other characters' weaknesses is what has made me get so much better at this game than i was in a relatively short amount of time.

It's just a matter of wanting to progress as much and as quickly as possible.

Possibly, as i say the missus is around in the evenings and she scares me so tele usage is down to whether she wants to play baldurs gate on the PC or not :p

Played some epic fights with ojste just now, it was one of those ones where i didn't care how many times i lost or how badly as the moment of sheer glee i experienced when i would put in the perfect ultra/super combo finish were unparalleled. Really had to work your ass off for a win.

I've learnt a new combo pseudo, be afraid, that makes it two! :p

right...

I'm trying to learn Abel, got a few moves and strategies sorted, no realy decent combo's sorted yet. Anyone fancy giving me a good kicking on PSN for a bit of practice??

Not bad at all mate, some good close games apart from that second one ;) That last one I was at the edge of my seat :p

1st game: 3-2
2nd game: 3-0
3rd game: 3-2

I think you will beat me tomorrow, that last game was CLOSE. :)
