Bought this on the 3rd December from a dealership in Sapporo, Japan. It's finally registered in the UK and legally driveable, and more importantly it's had a wash to get all the crap off it that it had collected at the docks.

In that boot picture, the thing on the left is the spare wheel, not the wheelarch, just to give you an idea of the scale It's massive. The valeter said next time I'm getting charged for a car and a half.

Got a few things to sort out on it.

1) Those wheels have to go, I'm replacing them with these ones which are necessary just to clear the brake upgrade I have planned (R33 GTS-T brakes). I'll stick with these wheels for now though, since the car is so huge and will take a little getting used to, means if I do curb them, who cares?

2) The number plate light they fitted is just ridiculous, and it blocks some of the numbers making them hard to read so it might not even be legal. Going to restore the backlight and fit a translucent plate like you get on the TVR Griffith

After that I can just drive it for a bit, I'll eventually put an Apexi intake and a decent exhaust on there, being an executive barge it's a little de-tuned and has a very restrictive exhaust compared to the R32 GTS-4 that the engine and drivetrain are based on. Fortunately as the engine bay is pretty much identical, upgrades are easy!

It's fun to drive, doesn't have quite as much kick as my old Legacy B4 did when you floor it, but the cornering is much better, compared to this car the Legacy is an understeering hunk of lard.

Car: £2000 (would have been £1300 but by the time I got the money together the pound to yen exchange rate wasn't so good.
Shipping: £882.91
Duty: £158.29
VAT: £316.58 (this, and the duty would also have been a lot cheaper if it wern't for the exchange rate)
Collection, conversion and service: £416.47
Registration + road tax: £155

Total: £3929.25

Pardon my ignorance, but is it anything special, it seems a lot of money for what looks similar to an old Nissan Maxima!

4k, thats insane amount of money, can understand it being like a skyline but its a boat surely. could you not get anything newer with similar amounts of power from over hereand save the hassle?

That's an A31 Cefiro. The A32 Cefiro /was/ a Nissan Maxima. The A31 uses all the running gear from the R32 Skyline and is therefore made of win, wheras the Maxima is FWD.

:-O

You could have got an excellent R32 2.5 turbo for £3k! Probably a few R33's around for similar prices as well!

Well I did get kind of hammered due to the delays between agreeing to buy it and actually getting the money.

Fox has a valid point, mine is based on the GTS-4, ok it's not /the/ best Skyline but it's still quick enough. There's enough RB25 and RB26 powered Ceffys around in countries where they are more common, it's an easy swap.

Yes I could buy a Skyline for the same money, however most insurance companies wont even quote me on a Skyline, those that do want around £1500 minimum. I'm paying £400 insurance on the Cefiro because the Maxima doesn't have the same history of being wrapped around trees by idiots.

Also I have the issue that since I get car allowance from work, the only real restriction is that I have to get something that looks vaguely respectable, I can't turn up on customer sites looking like a chav, so I couldn't have a Skyline, Impreza or an Evo. Well I could but I'd lose my car allowance.

Fortunately I really like sleepers and this is going to make a good sleeper when I'm done with it. For now I intend to keep it standardish until my insurance history looks a little better, then it's time for an RB25 swap or whatever.

Edit: Oh yeah, it has comfier seats and slightly softer suspension, more appropriate for long distance cruising, which is what I'll be doing.

That is utterly hideous.

You say you wanted something respectable, if you turned up to a meeting in that, I would think you were a minicab driver.

I wouldn't call that respectable, it looks like an ageing old banger, not a car I'd want to turn up to a meeting in!

I've never got on with BMWs, and I'm not sure I could afford the running costs of the big German cars.

Oh the other bit I forgot to mention, it's only done 18,000 miles!

It's like a hybrid of a Laurel and a mid-90s Cadillac....

Running costs of big German cars? Probably considerably less than a curious import with a timing belt :D
