I've been thinking about what sort of mouse to get lately as my mouse I feel is about to bit the dust. It often has the middle button not working (even after cleaning) and the charge stand is starting to not want to charge the mouse except for at funny angles so I think it's time I changed it after 5 years.

So what do you recommend? I game heavily, do a lot of modelling (3D Studio Max and MudBox), and I do a fair bit of film editing too plus require lots of scrolling. My first thought was to get another MX1000 if I could or perhaps go for the slightly more pricey MX Revolution, but then it has less buttons.

If there are any other brands that you could recommend then please fire away, but I'm wanting to have the mouse wireless, have a docking station, and it's a must to be a Laser mouse.

Any thoughts?

I say stick with Logitech, if anything goes wrong they have excellent customer service.

From their range I recommend a G5 if you don't mind wired. Best mouse I've ever had.

I think im developing a fetish for the MX Revolution. But, it is a fantastic mouse. And about the closest to a direct replacement your going to get to the MX1000

Not sure if a Revolution would be the best replacement to a MX1000, they're very different. A friend of mine bought a Revolution as replacement for a MX1000 and didn't like it at all.

Maybe check out the MX1100 if you want to stick with a MX1000-ish mouse.

Problem with the MX1100 is that I lose 2 buttons, I use all of the 8 buttons on my MX1000 for quick tasks, the Revolution though does have 1 less button though I could just map it to a G Key on my G15 r1 instead.

The MX1100 also uses batteries, I know that they last a long time but I much prefer a docking station. I also hate having wires all over the place so the G5 is out of the question. Do you think I should shop around for another MX1000? The Revolution has caught my eye on several occasions in the past but I've never really decided to get one as I love the MX1000 so much.

I just went from mx1000 to mx1100R

Tried a MX revolution in store and felt it was a bit small for my hand.

The MX1100 is a good mouse though the back and forward buton could have been placed a little bit better.

Still think the original MX1000 feels the best in the hand.

For your purposes then the revolution sounds about the best option.
MX1100 has dpi changer if that is important

Out of curiosity, are the MX1100's sensitivity buttons programmable? Or are they strictly set for DPI only?

From a previous thread....
I upgraded my mx1000 to a mx rev mouse, but didnt like it much so I sold it and went back to my mx 1000, I think the mx1000 is a far better then the mx rev. At the end of the day the mx1000 mouse ROCKS and thrashes the mx rev in all areas accept for the cool wheel. I will be trying the mx1100 at some point, and hopefully I wont be as disapointed like I was with the mx rev. The mx rev is ment to be a upgrade from the mx1000 and all I can say is "upgrade my foot"

1. The response on the mx rev didnt feel as quick as the mx1000, like the mx1000 comes out of sleep mode almost instantly and the mx rev dont.
2 The batt with the mx rev only last 2-3days if your lucky, but mx1000 last over a week easy.
3 the mx1000 feels much better in the hand then the mx rev, with the mx rev my hand kept slipping off amd didnt feel very comfortable to use. I think thats the main reason I went back to my mx1000. The mx1000 fits like a glove in the hand,

Oh yeah, it was a big diff going back to the mx 1000 after using the mx rev for a few weeks, its just in a diff league then the mx rev.

Before you buy anything, try calling Logitech up first. Most of the time, all they ask for is the serial number on the bottom of the mouse. I called them and got a free MX Revolution replacement for my MX1000.

I rang them up a few weeks ago, cos the left button started double clicking on my mx1000, and they sent me a replacement mx1000 (new), but Id only had the mouse for ayear so it was covered by warranty.

Wow thanks for this, I've always assumed my MX3100 desktop set had a 3 year warranty, turns out its 5. I doubt I have my receipt any more but i know it was april 2005, do they still need some proof of purchase.

My middle mouse button is intermittent, along with my left control key on the keyboard. Luckily, the serial number is about the only part of the sticker that hasnt been worn away! Will give them a ring tomorrow, I guess the mx5500 set is the equivalent now? Although I'd be happy with a MX3100 again, but no the MX3200.

I did this too. Half expected to be told where to go but the guy on the phone sent one to me. :) Fantastic customer service. Just for that I'll always prefer Logitech mice.

I had the same problem with my MX1000 (middle-click not always working), contacted Logitech and they offered me the MX3200. I really wanted the MX5500 so I asked if I could put some of my own money towards it to make up the difference, but they said they'd just send me it as a free replacement instead!

Well whatever you get, even if you don't want it, you can always sell it or something. I didn't need proof of purchase, and most people say they only asked for their serial numbers. Sometimes they might ask you to send it to them. It's worth a shot though.

Ah well. You tried your best. :p

You mean they sent you the MX5500 free after a bit of nagging? Interesting. I would rather be stuck with an intermittent mx3100 than a mx3200 tbh, my housemate has one and i find the whole thing really lacking the quality of normal logitech kit. The mouse is unresponsive (and not rechargeable), the keyboard isn't as cushioned as mine either.
My argument would simply be, the MX3100 was the top offering from logitech when I purchased it, and it set me back £80, I want the top (equivalent) model again.

Cheers for the notes, I'm going to email Logitech tomorrow and see if I can get a replacement. It's rather old though hopefully I'll see what happens. If I can get an MX1000 replacement I'd be over the moon. Had to do the same with my G15 r1, got the first batch at release and the rubber came off the keys after 3 months, kept using it for a year then got it replaced free of charge without any hassle. The have great customer service.

I'm a Logitech fan mind, I swear most of my peripherals are nothing but Logitech!
