Do you ever rebuild your machine when your bored?

No rebuild of the hardware, if things are running smoothly, but I usually restore a backup of my OS partition every couple of weeks or so (and re-image with new versions of apps) to keep things running smoothly.

Only thing I do that involves removing the side door is getting a can of compressed air in there to blow out any dust buildup every few months. In a house with no smokers, no pets and regular vacuuming it's quite worrying how much dust can congregate there in such a short space of time.

Maybe I should look into water cooling!

No not a bloody chance, it's been running xp for a year or so now and dual booting with ubuntu for about 6 months. I still remember the days of having to reinstall win95/98 every three months because it was knackered not because i was a bit bored :)

I could do with giving it a physical clean, but i might wait another couple of months :D

Ive just realised ive rebuilt my PC three times this year and its only March! I seem to do it when im bored as it gives me something to do.

Does anyone do this?? :o

Rebuilt mine 3 times in the last week, Temps rose, Not enough to stop me playing games but still I like tweaking my system & having it how I want. It's still not quite how I want it so I'll be rebuilding again later using a different lay out/heatsink & then it's off to the Bios for my favourite bit
I'd say 25% of my PC usage is taken up tweaking/clocking/messing/rebuilding/swapping in & out, I literally Love to tinker with my system :)

I like to format it every few months to keep it fresh.
Plus I hate cables so once its tidy it stays like that!
New HD4870, so may rebuilt it slightly to accomodate that ;)

I only clean it every so often and rebuild for an upgrade.

Don't see the point rebuilding when there's no need, room for things to go wrong for no reason at all! If it isn't broke, don't fix it tbh. ;)

to those who keep rebuilding: ever thought taking it a step further and taking other things apart and rebuilding them? ie tv, dvd player, digi box etc? although you are only doing it because you're bored you could easily turn it into something worth while. I always hear about these massively rich people that started off by just being curious to how things worked, taking things apart learning to put it back together again then take next step up etc etc. that could be the people in this thread ;)

If a build doesn't last me at least a year i get really annoyed. 2 years is my norm.

I could do with a rebuild now as mine is starting to get a bit sluggish. However, do I wait for SP2 and install using a vista SP2 disk or wait until windows 7 which I will be buying on the day of release? I think i'll probably have a very thorough clean up and pop sp2 over the top until W7 is released.

I don't use image software because I rebuild so infrequently. Drivers and software get updated so often that it's not worth it, a year old image is not much use.
