most of us have played games that have used up some of our time on the pc,most were completed in a week or two! but what was the game that took up all of your time every opportunity you could get for months and put your personal life at breaking point with your loved ones? my experience was with "rome total war" which was a strain on my relationship! :)

TF2

The moment i realised id spent 24 hours playing TF2 over the course of 3 days scared me a little, especially seen as it was when i was supposed to be writing my final year project.

Never put a relationship onder strain, but I did live with a couple who actually replaced spending time with each other with spending time in there own rooms playign campaigns together on WoW every free moment they got. I think it actually got to the stage where they spent more time together online than in real life...

Star Wars: Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight.

This game took up most of my Summer holidays back in 1997 as I found it to be quite difficult then. Not to mention how to you branch off on either Light or Dark side to see how the story progresses, so lots of replayability to what what the available Force skills were like.

when i completed " rome total war " i started to shout "yes cmon" at the monitor whilst shaking my fist. no wonder she wanted to divorce me.. lol :D

Quakeworld is probably the only game that fits the bill for me, I used to go into the uni computer labs late at night to play it online. I even travelled from home back to uni during the holidays in the daytime just to play it. Racked up some big phone bills, messed up my degree, and was probably fairly close to being addicted. I'd stay up all night playing and move to American servers if things were a bit quiet in Europe. At one point I was consistently clocking 30hrs+ a week and was ranked #1 in the world statistically (although I wasn't actually the best player in the world!). Over 10 years later and I still play it, albeit not to the same level.

Of course there were a few single player games prior to that such as Championship Manager '93 that took a chunk of my time, but not to that extent.

1st ?
Chuckie Egg.

Pharoah ?
TIE fighter ?
Dark Forces II ?
Champ Manager ?
Myst ?
Shogun total war ?
Counter Strike

More recent games to destroy my social life and just life in general.
World of Warcraft ( played since it came out :( )
The Sims + Sims 2 ( Have all the expansions as well :( )
Football Manager :(
Counter Strike: Source
Team Fortress II
Left for Dead

I wasted too much time on the original Counter Strike (playing in clan leagues, lots of practice matches etc). Then when I was done with that I wasted even more time playing C&C Tiberian Sun: Firestorm, again lots of clan stuff.

Right now it's Football Manager 2009, which is constantly on when I am on my PC and not playing another game.

*groans* i hate thinking back over my life for games like this.

Back in the day Age of Empires 1 and 2 fit this bill.
Then i got Pharoah back when i was like 11 (i think) managed to blag many a day off school to play that one (was so addicted to the demo years before).

At the same time i was pretty addicted to civ3 till i was about 16, that KOTOR2 and CSS nearly cost me my GCSE's (1 A was apparently unnaceptable)

Now Civ4 is the killer, im estimating over a 1000 hours play since i got it on release in 2005 (yeah that cost me in my AS exams, but i managed to stop playing for the actual A-levels). Still going even in 2nd year of my degree..... Thankfully i can now see its not really good for modeling International Relations....

The tony hawks games are pretty bad at doing this too....
