Driving test coming up soon. I have failed 3 times. My nerves just get the better of me.

People have said to take 'Calm pills'

1. Do you suggest these?

2. What are they actually called?

3. Where can I get them?

Cheers

Kalms I think they are actually called, never used them.

I should say I would not recommend you taking these though, and was merely saying this is what your friends might have told you to take.

someone taking pills that send you to sleep before taking a driving test..remind me to stay out of devon for a while :p

Beta Blockers may help and don't make you want to sleep :p

Where you get them without a prescription is another thing.

I wouldn't bother taking anything that's likely to reduce your reaction times.

Just learn to chill out and stop caring as much. It's all in your head anyway.

Yeah why you getting nervous over such a small thing theres much bigger goals in life than passing a driving test, take some amphetamines if anything will make you a bit cocky/arrogant er and increase your reaction times probably as you'll be more alert. Don't take something that's likely to cause you a crash lol. Don't take anything though as I said don't see it as a big deal it isn't theres far more bigger challenges in life.

Christ, you're only 17. It's not the end of the world if you don't pass this time now is it? Sure it's a pain in the bum, but you've got all the time in the world.

Chill out. Concentrate on driving, not the test. If you fail, just book another one.

Chew gum.

Its suppose to take your mind off things, wether its really true or not I don't know.

But I passed when I was chewing gum lol.

See a GP. You really don't want to be taking drugs to calm your nerves that might make you drowsy while driving.

Those Kalms pills are marketed as sleeping pills.

Beta blockers are usually quite easy to get on prescription from your doctor as long as you have a good reason. I and quite a few people I know have used them over exam periods, they stop you from panicking and feeling so nervous, but allow enough nerves to keep you sharp. You have to start taking them a day or two beforehand as they need time to build up in your system.
Another option is Bach's Rescue Remedy, I've used the spray version before and find it works almost instantly, although the effects wear off after a while.

Hope that helps

Stuff the pills, why are you so nervous?

It's worrying that you want to turn to medication when nerves is a totally natural phenomenon. Unless you have a medical condition (in which case you would likely already be on medication) why do you need pills?

Why don't you be a man, get a grip and get control of your nerves? People are busing having their limbs blown off in Afghanistan and there is you worrying about a driving test, you need some perspective my man.

Harsh words maybe, but overcoming fears on your own is part of growing up and will do you good. Face your fears...don't look for the easy way out.

<grabs OP and shakes him by the shoulders>

Come on man your awesome enough to do this on your own!

Someone recommended taking something like 'kalms' before a test, not so sure it would be a good idea.

She did pass first time though.

When I took my driving test it was just before my birthday, nice summer day and was having a party and a bbq later that day so was pretty chilled out.

I found that I just talked **** at the test guy the entire test, to keep myself calm. Some of them Im sure wouldnt like it, but I found it helped me no end and I passed first time :)

OP what are you nervous about exactly? The fear of crashing? Pedestrians? Motorways?

I think that's a bit too harsh MookJong, comparing every day life with being blown up in Afghanistan, and q bit fact unreasonable to expect people to just "suck it up and move on". Life is complicated, the human psyche is complicated, and some people suffer genuine bouts of nerves through no fault of their own which can't just be remedied by turning on a switch in the back of your head. What seems simple to you and me is not the same for others. :)
