It was acceptable in the 80's.......

I <3 your Manta. If the govt brings in this £2000 rebate for traded-in bangers that'll be the death for most of them. I feel like I need to experience one before this happens.

I love that my car rolled off the production line when I was 6  It still amazes me how well it cleans up and I absolutely love driving it! She's taking us to France in June
Good photography! I take it that was your better half? :p
;)
There is only one thing wrong with 80s cars (or for that matter many 90s cars), the interiors look so dated :(
I disagree. Absolutely love the interior in my Golf and it helps that it's in pretty good nick too. I really don't like the amount of trim in new cars. They just feel far too padded and I don't travel well in them either.

Nothing wrong with old motors at all. When my dad's '66 Anglia had it's last MOT they put it through the emissions test just to see how it would fare and it passed!

Absolutely love the golf. A mate of mine had an Oak Green G reg gti with the same wheels as yours.

The Manta is just ace, remember seeing them on the road when i was a kid and just drooling at them

Great stuff mate, absolutely loving my Golf. It was only supposed to be temporary, but I have no reason to get rid of it. It's fun, cheap to run, and hasn't cost me a penny in the 5 months I've owned it.

I had a lovely drive this morning in the sunshine, I went to pick up a bargain Whiteline adjustable rear ARB for it in Salisbury, pretty much all b-road stuff from my place to Salisbury, and I really stretched the old girls legs

Time for a gratuitous pic to add to the retro flavour of this thread:

That's looks awesome, Ben! I know it's had some paintwork, but that's one smart looking car!

Same for your cars, Leon and Kate. Both look awesome! The wheels suit the Golf quite well actually.

The pics remind me of picking up the tuning mags of the day and reading about Golf GTIs, R5 GTTs, Astra GTEs, Pug 205s etc.

Happy days.....

I am in a similar situation with my car, MkII golf. I bought it to tie me over while i saved money to buy something silly. Now i have had it for 7-8months i love the little thing and don't want to sell it to some boy racer.

I like them both, look in great condition a credit to both of you.

However i really like the golf, it reminds me of one i wanted as a kid, on the way to school i used to walk past a Mk2 GTI in white, one day someone put the side window through and the car just sat it a disused state for ages, should have knocked on the door and asked if i could have it!

The thing is I genuinely don't find myself yearning for something newer. Faster, yes... but not newer. I've driven plenty of modern hot hatches and they just don't do it for me.
No idea what I'd want to replace the Manta with.... not a clue!

turbo mx5? :D

Nice cars there, do have a soft spot for old manta's. Lovely things, went to race retro the other day so got to see the rally varient being blasted around stoneleigh park, plus some other excellent rally cars like the mk2 escort and kadett.
