Has PC Gaming Died over the past year or so?

So far in this thread you've called people retards, morons, ignorant, ignorant morons, trolls, narrowminded, accused people of typing drivel, talking out of their rectum, posting anecdotal gibberish, told someone to GTFO.... I'm just skimming here so sorry if I missed anything out.

You are practically drowning your Ilyama in a sea of rage induced spittle.

But what tickles me most is the fact that you accused someone of "trying to get personal".

Absolutely hilarious.

How does me using throw away abuse equate to extreme rage? You can be a ***** to other people in a very emotionally defunct manner. As I said previously "So, whilst it's nice that when you read my posts you imagine an emotionally visual crescendo of violent keyboard mashing, I just don't think my heart is in it enough for this to warrant anything more than a mild eyebrow raise. "

Duke Nukem is never going to come out, Bioshock is on consoles, Dirt 2 is on consoles, COD MW2 is on consoles, HL2 EP3 will be poo like the other 2 "expansions"

Will it? And what else will happen in the future Mystic Egg? The problem with these premature predictions is: you could be wrong. For some of us who reserve judgement on something until it's actually happened, PC Gaming looks fine. Cheer up.

I know that they can probably be played better on your pc, but for the majority of people they dont have the interest or money to spend on their PCs and so settle for the consoles. This is a HUGE contributing factor to the decline of PC gaming.

If you already have a PC for, say internet, email etc. might you also play games on it or go out and spend €400 on a PS3? Many people just turn down the settings and play games on their Dell PCs, that's what my brother does, that's what my dad does, that's what my boss does (I don't know anyone else who admits to owning a Dell :)).

I honestly couldn't give a toss whether a game is PC-exclusive or not. Cross platform gaming comes down to the game, not the platform, a big enough game will usually span several platforms. I would prefer a good game that was also released on consoles to a bad game that was PC-exclusive, wouldn't you?

I think the future of PC Gaming comes down to two variables:
1. The number of people with PCs
2. Whether they are interested in games

1. will be a very large number. 2. We will always play games.

As Charlie Brooker says:
"The biggest growth area in videogames right now is the "casual gaming" market. For "casual", read "mainstream". Effectively, this means games the average human being can relate to: anyone who's lived in a house can grasp what The Sims is, for instance; ... Grand Theft Auto might not look like a casual game, but it certainly appeals to a wide demographic, namely anyone who's ever fantasised about going berserk in a city (ie 98% of the population)."

SO Re: the thread title, I think the death of PC gaming would require getting rid of all PCs and people not being interested in games or to stop fantasising about going berserk in a city, i.e. not a chance.

Yes, but we end up seeing poor PC ports half the time rather than games optimised fully for the PC (as they often are for the consoles)

I don't get this arguement about piracy, you look on certain sites and there are shed loads of 360 games pirated and same for wii, ds and especially psp.

Yes but i argued this point in a previous thread, i can't be bothered digging up the figures but i'll explain what i found:

Basically, while the same games were available illegally for all platforms, the PC versions had been downloaded multiple times more than the 360 and Wii counterparts. In fact, i added the 360 and Wii totals for some titles together and in one case iirc the number of PC downloads was still double.

Yes, piracy on the 360 and Wii is possible, but it is not as easy, the 360 for example requires dismantling the console, usually invalidating the warranty and potentially getting your console banned from xbox live. I don't know how to mod a Wii these days but it used to involve fitting a mod-chip, this may have changed.

I think there has to be a ratio to sale to pirated to be taken into account as well for each platform & i would say its likely to be worse on the PC. the fact that there is also pirating on the consoles then becomes less relevant.

As you say it takes more work & risk on the consoles.

A friend of mine has no pirated games at all on the Xbox360 & is a heavy games player. But on his PC only the Vista install is legit & that is only because i built the PC, every thing else is pirated.

yes some games are ported well, some badly - like GTA4, so it's sales suffer as a result. It's in developers' interests to do a proper job or else everyone finds out about it nowadays.

Damn right!
And that's why I'm not buying it nore would i pirate it tho.

yeah of course GTA4 again. anything else? nope, all the other ports are superior to the console versions. even with gta4 if you have a good rig you get a much better experience compared to the blurry mess you get on consoles.

Think you should qualify that as your opinion - depending on the game and the job done on the port. For example, Gears of War was a nightmare on PC to play, Burnout Paradise is fantastic on Xbox and I would say the console version of DMC4 is the definitive version.

Conversely, I would say games such as Bioshock, Fallout 3, Mass Effect and others that suit keyboard/mouse are more at home on the PC.

While I don't necessary disagree with you, I disagree that ALL ports are better on PC. It all comes down to the quality of port, the spec of your PC and if the game itself suits PC controls.

I have played both GOW & DMC4 on the Xbox 360 & i would say the PC versions are better. i can understand that some people had issues with running GOW on the PC, but DMC4 on the PC was quality in port & visuals over the Console.

same. i've played both the pc and the xbox 360 versions of Gears, Burnout paradise, DMC4 and the pc ones were by far the best. I played the pc versions using an xbox360 controller btw. i mean come on Gears of War at 1080p, 4x AA, 60 fps + extra content was dreamy... my mate that only owns an xbox360 spent a few evenings at my place playing the pc version of Geow and he was quite surprised by the difference.

no its not an opinion. when you can enjoy the same game with better framerates, graphics and sometimes extra content or mods with the controller of your choice then it is the better version.

Didn't the PC version of gears have loads of problems with saved games going missing? Not to mention that problem with everyone being locked out because of the DRM. As for EVERY version being better on the PC, what about Fifa? Guitar Hero? Saints Row 2?

Think you might need to look up what an opinion is. A lot of PC ports have been terrible buggy messes. And anything that requires Games For Windows Live to play online is best worth avoiding.

again give me some examples, which ports are you talking about? i can spit out non sense as well... fallout 3 and dawn of war 2 require Games for windows live and both are excellent games that play with no problems. when there is enough evidence to prove sth then its a fact.

i never encountered a single problem neither i've heard from anyone that bought gears LEGALLY! who needs fifa when we got pro eve and how about the xbox 360 version of football manager? saints row 2? come on... i'm talking about first class games like DMC4, Mass effect, fallout 3, assasins creed. sure xbox360 got a better 3d version of worms, no one is going to care about it though.

Yes, it is a nightmare port.

Woo, i got to play it with extra AA and at a higher res, shame the online counterpart was basically broken due to xbox live being a shambles on the PC and the game just STOPPED working one day. Let's not even mention the stutter that rendered the game near-unplayable at certain points (not a hardware issue before someone says, it was a flaw with the game itself). I had to play that frikkin game from the beginning 4 times just to get to the end because it kept losing my savegames.

PC version is way better, clearly

This attitude of better graphics = better game just doesn't rinse with me, especially when you take things like shambolic DRM, crappy engines and games for windows live into account. I'm not saying all ports are rubbish, far from it, but the fact that some people are saying the PC version of games are better because of improved graphics despite the wide-spread and well-known issues they've suffered on the PC really puzzles me.

well me and many others including reviewers didnt encounter any of these problems. the game just stopped working? yeah sure, there was a fix within 24 hours. xbox360 live going down during the holidays was a much bigger problem. Quote from a popular website that nominated gears of war as game of the year : "The PC version of Gears of War is everything the 360 version was and more."

btw what kind of problems did you encounter using games for windows live?
