Hi I have recently had my 172 cup stolen and have had to claim on my insurance, I did have 3yrs NCB and would have had 4 in 10 days :(. What I understand from my insurance company I have lost all NCB which is fair enough as I have made a claim. I am 21 (22 in july) Is this going to have a massive effect on my chances of getting decent insurance for the next few years? I had been looking at getting an e46 M3 or an 8P S3 and was getting reasonable (ish) quotes but I have a gutting feeling this may be no more, I have no points and have never had a crash does this even count for anything now I have no NCB? :(:(:(

I don't know, but bet you're gutted mate, sorry to hear that. I guess you could hope that the car could be found and returned in a decent condition? What happened, did the keys get stolen?

was the car stolen from your home? if so, it would be interesting to see what difference that has on the quote.

run some quotes for the cars you want with 0 ncb and a claim worth the value of your car.

I am terribly sorry to hear about your car :(

Although a 21 year old thinking of getting an E46 M3... Seriously mate?

Regardless of that though I hope the scum who stole your car get their comeuppance.
Your NCB loss is also another solid nail in my case on these forums to suggest NCB has absolutely and irrefutably NO reflection on driving ability or success whatsoever.

Oh I forgot to mention the car was has been written off as it was involved in a crash about a mile from my house :(

Yeah I know it sounds stupid but I fell in love with these from the day they came out, I also understand that a 21 year old + 343bhp could = severe injurys but so could my Clio with no ABS or traction control as MR tea leaf found out.
(also why I was considering the S3, less lairy)

Why would you be thinking of an S3 or an M3? They are completely different cars. One is a reasonably quick hatchback, the other is a properly quick super-coupe with running costs an order of magnitude higher and a like for like (age/mileage) example costing thousands of pounds more. A 330Ci Sport would be a better S3 Alternative, M3 looks, similar performance/costs to the S3.

I understand they are completely different cars, the M3 is something I have always wanted but the S3 is the more sensible choice but also the more expensive to buy. Kind of a heart/head thing. :)

More expensive to buy... Less expensive to run?

I'm not a motoring expert but the E46 M3 can cost a boat load to maintain.

Didn't realise the 8P was the current shape S3, stupid money to spend on a hatchback at 21 frankly, dont do it, buy something for half the price or you'll regret it.

Yeah the S3 more expensive to buy but allot less to run where as the M3 costs less to buy but costs considerably more to run. But I would not commute in either car as I use a works van for my daily driving.

I was thinking this also.

Do some quotes on some internets and see what you get. It's probably going to be of more use than someone saying something like "it'll probably make things more expensive." Although it will. :/

Hard lines fella.

In my mind, anything quicker than 5ish seconds to 60 is pretty bloody quick to me. Super-coupe may be pushing it a little, but its definitely a special car.

Bmw only make one "properly quick" coupe. The m6.

although im confident my next car will beat it 30-120mph.

Oh right, so all the other M series cars are negligible?

BMWs are purchased for reasons other than performance. They make some of the most refined petrol and diesel engines in the world. Their cars are arguably luxury and great fun to drive.

Calling the M6 the only "Properly quick" coupe in the range is just ridiculous mate.

I'm confident the eggs I bought earlier on will have a best before date some time after the 28th.

Just so everyone knows yeah, my eggs last a pretty damn long time.

Also on a sensible note: what?

I'm sure you wont lose all three years no claims, I've never known a claim to take anymore than two!

I had a similar thing happen to me 3 years ago, was a few weeks away from 5 years no claims till I hit a deer and went down to two years :( Didn't protect my no claims like a numpety :P
