fake/dodgy ram *SOLVED* SPD issue

Hi all, got a problem with some RAM I ordered late last year, my order details are as follows:

Code:
Order date and time: 18 Sep, 08, 12:42 am.

Your order consisted of the following items:
Item Qty Price
Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C5 800MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX6400D2K2/4G) 1 £49.99

I use this machine for work, I have only just noticed (I know I am an idiot) that my PC picks it up as 667 MHz not 800MHz! I have tested with Geekbench, CPUZ, and from info my BIOS displays.

I don't overclock, or do anything fancy. My other specs are as follows:

Core2Quad Q6600
EVGA nForce 650i Ultra (latest BIOS release NF66_P05)
Geforce 8600gt
Tagan 580W PSU

What can I do this late? Has OC flogged me fake Kingston ram (I have heard of similiar cases with Kingston)? Am I going to have to bare the brunt and buy new ram?

What you are seeing is the SPD rating. This is set to run slower than advertised as some motherboard have difficulties in running higher. Set you ram to run at 800mhz in the BIOS.

"Has OC flogged me fake Kingston ram" is at the very least exceptionally rude.

The two most common questions here are 'why can't I see 4gb or ram' and 'why is my ram not running at the rated speed'. Not only did you fail to seek out any of these threads, you are also the only person I have seen presume ocuk or kingston to be at fault for this.

OcUK are not at fault, Kingston is not up to anything. The problem is in the chair.

Thanks Captain Obvious.
I have been an OCUK customer for years. I am being light hearted, it's no big deal, it's my fault for not spotting this sooner. W3bbo set me on the right track, and sure enough looks like Kingston set the SPD lower.

Memtest has just past 30mins walltime, and no errors are showing with the ram manually set to 800MHz.

It has been known for hardware vendors of any market sector to short change their customers. I wouldn't blame OCUK for anything, and if that had been the case I know they would have given me great support, as they have done in the past.

Guess I must have been crazy to think though that 800MHz ram is sometimes displayed as 667....although I can understand it when you come across motherboards like mine, which I must say is not the greatest. But that's my fault again, should have done some research.

Thanks for the info :) it is pretty scary, especially this far down the line after purchase.

I have the correct settings now, and Memtest came up clean
