Hi, was going to put a 260gtx in my new build, but in a lot of peoples sigs it says 280gtx. So I was thinking, is it worth paying that little bit extra for a 280 or not?
Also I cant seem to find any 280 gtx for sale on this site?

280 got eked out by the 285, if you can find one cheap go for it probobly... but i just got the bfg ocx from here for £183inc vat today! think I got lucky and it clocked pretty well over its already decent clock!

My mate told me if you get a 65nm chip as opposed to the 55 but at the good speeds they come with better coolers (same as the 280s) so you can push them a bit better

Ah, so no 280gtx for me. Thats fine, I have seen a good 260gtx elsewhere for £190 and it has 670mhz core I think :)
Also you said to get the 65nm core one, but I don't think the have 216 stream proccessors :(

Erm not to rock the boat but a 1GB 4870 is cheaper and faster than a 260. Well, its all give and take in terms of which games you play but its defo cheaper and clocks quite nicely.

Aw, you just made it more difficult. I think I will stick with the Nvidia as they tend to improve their tech a lot, plus it has physx and that cuda thing which might be usefull in the future :) Plus I can always OC

LMAO! Improve their tech a lot?

This is the company that's spent the past few years recycling the same hardware again and again and again under new names because they don't have any genuinely new tech.

Bottom line is - the 260-216 and HD4870 1GB perform very evenly, and are within 10-20% of the performance of the GTX280.

Both companies have put out great products with good driver support, so at the end of the day, get whichever you prefer in terms of looks, bundle, warranty, etc.

O cam on ati boy the 1GB 4870 is not faster than the 260 and nvidia have better driver support;)

Thanks reflux. The gtx260 I saw elsewhere is an XFX and has high memory/core clock speeds :)
I hope it has enough power for a 24".

Dont bother paying extra for a slightly higher clocked card as you can do it for free yourself. Just get the cheapest 65nm 260-216 with a half decent warranty.
