ebay, i'm being scammed

I just know this will turn into a "EBay suxxor" thread...
....but why oh why did you accept a Paypal payment for something that was being collected in person?

I hope you can get things sorted out.

First of all, no theft or fraud has been commited yet. There is only presumption that it might happen. Having multiple accounts is not illegal and not against ebay rules, as long as they don't interfere with each other (you don't bid on your own items between accounts). So far you've got nothing to report to police but your bad feeling and internet hear say on what "people like that do".

Offer him full refund and tell him to bring the console back. Check the console is undamaged, same serial as the one you sold him, refund his money, via paypal, in front of him. Then blacklist his account from bidding on your items and list it again, make sure you go via end of auction fees refund form and file it under "buyer changed his mind" so there is record of it at ebay. Put it down to experience.

I'm with vOn. If you have the serial number then offer the refund and check it out carefully. Note that you can get registered owners details from the DVLA for a small fee so provided the car is registered to him you can get his address.

As a word of advice, if someone is picking up the item from you personally, always demonstrate it, then they have no recourse.

i have said it a million times it's called 'cash on collection' that is the only ever reason i would allow someone to come to my house. even on ebay i make them sign a sold as seen disclaimer.

Sounds like he's bought it from you and has a faulty one there - I'd say 4 weeks is a long time to test it. Does your reciept have the serial number of the console on it - I wouldn't give him the original reciept either until the issus is resolved. If he does bring the console back make sure you check the serial number against yours also all the warranty stickers, etc.

No you can't, not under these circumstances.

Are you sure about that? We had trouble with cars parking illegally in a private car park and were told by the council and police that it was a civil matter and that we should get the owners details from the DVLA and contact them directly.

Ok done a little more looking and form V888 is what is required although you need a good reason for asking. I'm guessing if this turns into a case of attemped fraud then that would give the OP the rights to use the car reg as a way of obtaining the persons details providing the police were not interested.
