The Nokia 5800 Express Media (Tube) Thread

Been stuck at this for 20 minutes.

What do I do? The updating bar is still animated.

I picked one of these up today from CPW. It's completely unbranded (I'm on T-Mobile) and looks as though it's going to be unlocked although I haven't got a different SIM to try this out. He'd got the phone out the back before even asking what network I wanted it on so thumbs up from me and managed to get a decent deal through T-Mobile upgrades - the guy at CPW was even giving them grief on my behalf to get a better deal.:D

Just leaving it to do a decent charge then will play more tomorrow.:)

Well, my phone was temporarily bricked. Luckily theres a simple recovery process (NSU gives the process once it realises it isnt doing anything). Re attempting the firmware upgrade.

edit: It simply isn't working. I give up. There was a v20 firmware which was released making everything snappier and fixes the gallery freezing bug (very annoying), but the firmware itself introduced dozens of new bugs and so was withdrawn.

Just ordered one of these as an upgrade from T-Mobile.

Got a pretty good deal I think.

Flext 40
£225 Monthly Allowance
Free Web n Walk
Free Phone

£19 a month (50% Friends and Family Discount)

Was previously on Flext 35 with Web n Walk and was paying £21 a month so the guy I spoke to encouraged me to upgrade to Flext 40 and then stated it was cheaper.

Win!

EDIT: The guy said this is a brand new tariff also. The Flext 40 advertised on the website has a £250 allowance.

Also, can anyone help with my questions posted earlier on on this thread? It's just bugging me a bit now :)

Firstly, my old Motorola was very useful in that if i had a reminder or a text message come in, and i dont look at it straight away, it'd beep at me every 5mins or so. Is there any way to setup the 5800 to do this?

Secondly, how do i set it up to delete messages older than, say, 30 days? Or generally how do i keep the inbox/outboxes tidy automatically? It looks like it's just going to store everything forever?

Thirdly, Gmail is cool but the icon is all blown up/distorted. Does anyone else have this?

The 5800 doesnt 'beep' every so often when a message has come in, it does however flash the led at the bottom every so often to alert you.

Automatic message deletion - Messages>Settings>Text Message>Message Validity..

Yeah I have that Gmail problem - Id assume with an updated version this will be fixed. The Gmail app isnt designed for the 5800.

Recieved the phone today.

What firmware is everyone using?

Anything that should do be done to a fresh phone before I start to customising it?

How is everyone finding Opera Mini on it?

BBC iplayer is awesome on the phone, the quality is excellent. It doesn't seem to buffer often and is very smooth.

I have been using it through WLAN. At first it didn't want to play as it said I had to change my settings to WiFi which they were already. I upgraded the player through the phone and the message went away.

doesn't this use a lot of your monthly MB allowance if done on the move? Or are the videos a smaller resolution for mobile viewing?

Not entirely sure about the resolution, when I run the app and select a feed it changes the phone to horizontal viewing. I am guessing it would use a lot of MB's if you watched a full episode. (They play full screen too)

I've only used it on WiFi spots. Routers at friends/Uni network. Doesn't use any MB over WLAN. On the move it would.

Check out Fring if you haven't already, that app is superb, I've had it running for 10 hours or so (forgot to turn it off over night) and it has only used 120kb or so. It is an IM app that connects many programs together, I am using MSN/Skype/Facebook and all the contacts are merged together in a list (online/offline). There are other chats for it too like yahoo but I don't use them.

I'm due an upgrade next week and this phone has leaped over the HTC HD for me thanks to it costing half as much.

Just one question-
Does it play avi files well? I know there's symbian software out there for it, but not everyone seems happy with it and they recommend converting to mp4.

Thanks for that. I dont suppose you know what 'Maximum' means then? It's a bit annoying the longest time setting is 1 week. 2 weeks would be perfect.. lol..

Well I've finally ordered mine, should be here in 3-5 working days.

From O2 at £30.00PM with unlimited tinternet, unlimited texts and 100 mins. This will be my first ever contract phone after being on PAYG for years :)

I'm told my number, which I've had for 8 years can be transferred over within 24hours and the credit on my PAYG will be deducted off my second bill = months 2&3 are free ;)
