I take it all back. I'm loving my PS3

Another point is...

I wish I could operate my PS3 with my Harmony One remote

You can, can't you?

Maybe I'm mis-remembering, but I thought you could buy an Infrared remote kit for the PS3.

A USB IR port plugs into a PS3 USB port, and it comes with an IR remote, which you could then teach the harmony remote?

My projector came with a learning remote, but personally, I got the PS3 bluetooth remote, and I love it. I love that I can just leave it on the sofa beside me, and not have to pick it up and "aim" it when the phone rings, or whatever.

Vin.

EDIT: Just did a google, found what you need from a link on AV Forums, problem is, I can't link, because it links to the competitor that sells them.

I'll quote the post though

I had the same problem as you - I wanted to use my universal Philips Pronto to control the PS3 so needed an IR controller. I bought one of these from ***** (search for PS3 remote if the link doesn't work - its a Logic 3 remote):

Despite the one fairly negative review on the ***** website it has worked fine for me. You plug the USB dongle into the PS3 and it comes with a remote from which you can learn the commands for triangle, circle etc.

The only thing you can't do is power on/off the PS3 because the USB dongle isn't powered itself until after the PS3 is switched on. So you will still need to switch the PS3 on and off manually. However, after that you can navigate and play DVDs etc. (can be a tad slow to move around menus). I have even used my universal remote to play a PS3 game which feels really 'odd'.

There are probably more than one option available, this was just a very quick google to find something, but yes, you can get USB IR ports for the PS3, which you could then teach to your harmony. Have you ever tried the bluetooth remote though? I know it's an extra remote, but I really like it!

Now I have a PS3 I feel like I have joined some kind of elite millionaire's club

We are the real groups behind the NWO.

Using our DS3s we shall, one day, control every being on earth!

Good to hear you're enjoying it easyrider. Best purchase I've made too.

Sick of the fanboys that have to ruin these threads though.

The 360 had it's chance with me and it failed.

Also, Sony are under pressure from publishers such as EA and even Media Molecule who are harping on about a price cut. Pressure they are almost certain to bow to.

Same. I'd rather have a machine I could see myself still having in 10 years from now. I'm not going to keep sending my 360 off for repair and paying to do that. In 10 years time, no one will have a 360 as they won't be worth keeping.

I'm honestly suprised my PS3 is still going strong.

Granted, it was replaced with a refurb but that was only a minor noise issue and the new refurb has seen over 1000 hours and the pre-refurb console maybe 1000-2000. I paid 30 quid for my PS3. Trading in my also rarely used Wii + games made up the rest of the value. Best decision I could have made.

I had the Wii from launch and kept it for a year, buying 7 Wii games in that space of time as they were the only ones to interest me and even then, Zelda was the only decent one.

The 360 in the 3 months I humoured it with being in my presence was maybe used for 50 hours max and I gave it every chance, buying all the big titles and exclusives. I found Live to be mostly full of numpties who would rather have a slagging match than play a game, the console crashed repeatedly, it sounded like a cement mixer unless the game was installed to HD. Overall, I didn't like anything about it.

Aren't MM owned by Sony? If so props to them for having the large testicles required to order your bosses around :p

"Sony obviously still has a ways to go with their pricing," EA Sports boss Peter Moore told Bloomberg. He said that EA is committed to PS3 and that he expects a price cut eventually, but added of Nintendo: "You can't ignore the guy who has half the market."

"Anytime a console manufacturer reduces the price, software publishers benefit," Ubisoft chief executive Yves Guillemot also said.

Meanwhile, Media Molecule co-founder Alex Evans told Gamasutra that a price drop would help improve PS3's market share.

"They've had all these, you know, SingStars and the EyeToy games. They've had their casual gaming audience on the PS2, and they have to translate that over to PS3 now.

"As they do that, I'll be very happy with that, because that's how I see PS3 growing. That's why I'm kind of comfortable with it for now... As soon as they drop their price, ho ho ho."

According to Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey, failure to drop the PS3's price could see studios shift their development funds to Wii.

"If they can't meaningfully increase their install base, then you will likely see a capital reallocation," he told Bloomberg.

Many are expecting Sony to introduce a PS3 price cut after the close of its financial year at the end of March. However, Sony has yet confirm any such plans and obviously won't until the price cut is almost upon us.

"Everybody in the development community would love for the PS3 to be free, so they could just sell razor blades," Peter Dille, Sony Computer Entertainment America's senior vice president of marketing, told the financial site, noting that Sony is as concerned with profitability as it is PS3's installed base.

I've never understood the appeal.

The PS2 was ugly as sin (as was the slim actually) but the slim was so much smaller and less of an eyesore because of it. The PS3 is quite pretty imo, so i couldn't care less if they released a slim version; as it stands i have no need.

Think I will look for a IR USB thingy and teach my harmony.

Worth a go at least

Good news! Logitech are releasing an adapter
ou've got to love it, don't you? Just a day after we caught wind of Logitech's Harmony Adapter for PlayStation 3 (via the always informative FCC), the aforesaid company has come forward and confessed to its plans. The good news is that the adapter is for real, and while we're still not being told too much about the device itself, we do know that it will operate with any Harmony remote and it won't take up a USB port on your console. In other words, it's a simple Infrared-to-Bluetooth converter, though it promises to give Harmony remote users "complete control (including power on / off) over the movie-watching experience on a PS3." We're pleading for more information on pricing and availability, but until that's received, just enjoy your weekend knowing that you'll be able to buy one soon enough.

I honestly don't really like my PS3, and I've had it since launch day. Almost every cross platform game has been better on the 360. It's a shame because the hardware is really nice and better quality than the 360. The online service also leaves a lot to be desired.

The exclusives make it worth owning though :) Bring on Final Fantasy Versus XIII!

I feel exactly the same way, it feels so well made compared to the 360, its silent, but I just dont use the thing. It is the only bit of kit on AV rack that I actually unplug. I still ony have 4 games for it, every duel format game is either better on the 360 or the same, in which case Ill still get it on the 360 because I prefer the pad and Live.

I keep hanging on to the thing in the promise of the next big release. 1st it was MGS4, then LBP, most recently Kill Zone 2. The only reason its not been sold now is for the new GOW.

Ill stop moaning now as it is a great bit of kit, I just wish they had made it easier to develop for.

Lies! The PS2 looks amazing, I had mine out recently to replay MGS2 and 3, and it still looks fantastic. The PS3 isn't bad, but its shininess and curves look a bit tacky in comparison; it looks less like a console and more like a 'thing'. Not much of a fan of the slim PS2 though, it's impressive but I wouldn't want one. I like my fat PS2.

See thats kinda how I feel about my 360! Ive got an Elite just gathering dust on my TV stand as I get all my multiplats on PS3 as I just prefer playing on it. The thing just feels a bit sleeker and solid to me I cant explain it + the quietness and online being free (my live subscription has expired) + more mates have PS3s, etc, just adds up in my case! The only exclusives that have intrested me on the 360 are Gears 1/2, Fable 2, and NG2 (which is apparently coming to PS3 now). As nearly all the 360s titles are shared with the PC (and I always tend to go with PC to get max settings) my 360 is unfornately pretty much redundant. Though we have some mad horde sessions every now and again I dont think its worth sitting switched off for. If things like cross-game chat and invites FINALLY get implemented on the PS3 and there still arent any 360 exclusives announced that look decent to me Im seriously considering selling it.
