Will Newcastle still be a big club when they are relegated?

i would love it if newcastle went down, love it

but i think they will stay up by the absolute skins of their teeth
im talking about last day of the season last 5 mins of the match with them surviving on goal difference or by 1 or 2 points max

of course i fully expect spurs to gift them 3 points to aid them in survival

I wouldn't wish it on anyone having thought for a few weeks we were for the drop!

Though the way most Newcastle fans have acted, with genuine glee at our plight.... I wouldn't lose any sleep if they did :)

As regards to them being a big club, of course they are, it's ridiculous to say they aren't a big club. In the Championship it would be like playing at Wembley for some of the opposition when they visit St.James park.

Newcastle won't go down and I'm sure they'd still pack St. James Park in the Championship.

It all comes down to how you measure a big club - trophies or fan base? Are Chelsea or Juventus a big club? Are Leeds?

Which they wont, if they go down then Owen, Martins, Taylor, Coloccini, Bassong & Beye are all certs to go

They might keep hold of Butt, Duff and Ameobi but that's about it

surely with a back four of such high quality players, Newcastle wouldn't be where they are now, perhaps theres a possibility those players aren't that good.

I keep hearing Bassong and Coloccini are good yet I've seen little proof of it. Bassong I've seen have some good games, Coloccini in the games I've seen has been terrible constantly making awful mistakes like failing to clear a ludicrously simple ball, falling over, and letting Bendtner in behind. Taylor suprisingly(despite the red card and lengthy ban that he should have recieved) was quite good at the weekend but more often than not is a hopeless twit.

Martins, Owen and Gutierez are the only quality players in the team that other prem teams will want for certain. Bassong and Coloccini maybe, outside chance of Beye but you'd have to be mad to buy Taylor, Butt, a completely past it Duff and the too crap for the Championship Ameobi.

Most of the often relegated clubs will get rid of the biggest wage earners as the majority of clubs take a significant hit to home attandance with each drop in league, Newcastle will be one of the few clubs that will most likely barely see any drop in attendance, or ticket prices and hell, even an increase in the number of league games so they could even make more on tickets, just less on tv money. with the likes of Bassong supposedly on 5k a week they've got very little reason to let him go to buy some average championship defender for the same or maybe even higher wages.

Have to agree drunkenmaster, Taylor is absolutly useless, I do rate Beye and Bassong and think Collicini is average and slow.

As for attacking, yeah Gutierez and Owen will be obvious targets for some clubs, Martins too but only because of his physical attributes, most games hes hideous he has the ability but hes totally braindead.
Duff will go somewhere based on his reputation same as Butt, Ameobi we'll have for years because we decided to give him a 4 year extension on his contract because he's obviously proven himself to be irreplaceable! - He has to be like eto'o in training I DO NOT GET IT!

For a start i doubt Newcastle will go down but if they do it won't affect 'the size' of the club. The only thing that's stopping them from being a small club are their fans and they'll still be there.

With those fans and the fact that Ashley will no doubt subsadise them to protect his investment, they'll come straight back up even if they do go down.

Love to see Newcastle and Boro go down :D

Small minded attitude tbh and not one I would expect to be expressed my the majority of N.E supporters, Local rivalry is one thing but surely its better to have all the big 3 North east teams in the premier league and look forward to the local derby's rather than the relentless away games to London ?

Why would you wish away your best, most passionate 4 games of the season ?

I seriously hope Boro and Newcastle stay up, and whilst I can see Newcastle doing it I think Boro are doomed.

And Newcastle would think themselves as a big club even if they were in League 2

I class Leeds as a big club and look where they are

I can handle going down just....I just can't handle Leeds prices at SJP for Championship football

I've said at work if we were to go down I reckon we would struggle down there, with no team after the firesale

Oh and I want all 3 NE clubs to stay up, maybe Boro down :D but no seriously I like the rivalry, after all as many have pointed out, we never win anything so it's like our own NE mini league

It's odd to be thinking that Newcastle and Boro may be going down. Both had bad seasons.

I think it would be a whole new freak out for the Owner, and i'm not sure how they would do in the Championship. I don't think they'd struggle, but I dont think they would win.

I have to disagree with most who say our attendances wont drop, I can guarantee you they will but that is regardless of whether we sty up or go down! Every single fan Ive spoken to is sick to the back teeth of having the **** taken out of them by the owner and until they get rid of a 2 bit management set up I suspect a lot of them wont step foot back in SJP.

Im not suggesting that we are entitled to a manager like Murhinio or similiar world class type, sky sports have an annoying habbit of picking the numpties for their interviews, but we really need someone to come in who can stand up to the owner for starters (which probably wont ever happen as he is employing him)

stand up to the owner, who came in, paid off massive debt, has paid for new players, has paid for new contracts.

I'm really getting irked at the entitlement of some fans. Newcastle fans, quite literally, were saved by the current owner yet you fling dirt at him no end. It makes me sick tbh, its not quite as bad as Liverpool fans complaining about their owners not spending, considering they've spent MASSIVE money on several huge players since they came in, frankly liverpool fans are embarassing in that respect. Their owners have invested 10's of millions in players but they seem angry that they aren't billionaires that haven't invested Abramovich money.

Surely Newcastle fans have been fed up for years at the lack of performing and getting right up there, yet they haven't left yet. Complaining, being fed up are one thing, actually giving up going to see the team you love is a completely different kettle of fish.

Not only do Newcastle fans seem to feel entitled to an owner who will spend more than the significant outlay Ashley has put out, you seem to think you can attract a top 4 manager at a struggling club thats fighting relegation.

Now to be fair, had Alladyce not wasted money on all the wrong players, the wrong positions etc then maybe he wouldn't have screwed them up so badly but after his time there and the position of the club you weren't going to get a big manager.

I also can't remember but I don't remember a significant amout of people upset at Alladyce's appointment, so if lots of people thought he was good, the fans wanted him, the owner gets him, then its all the owners fault when he sucks?

It must really be awful to be an owner, hell Man U, Liverpool and Chelsea owners all get lots and lots of stick from their fans, its truly truly pathetic.

I have issues with Wenger lately, but our owners have been spot on for as long as I can remember. If they come out and say theirs no cash to spend I'll be fine with it and not complain in the slightest. I think Man U's owners slating has gone down of late, shockingly, but the first couple years without a title it was all constant complaining about the debt, the investment in the team, etc, etc. Despite the fact that they too were clearly investing and last year it paid off huge.

For all the complaining Liverpools owners got Torres, kept Gerrard, got Macherano, bought Skrtel, Agger, etc, etc. All that complaining about the awful non investing owners is truly pathetic considering where its taken them.

Newcastle are a well supported club but they are not big as in the likes of Liverpool, Man U, Arsenal and Chelsea.

I think that we are going down this year although I hate to admit it.
