Will Newcastle still be a big club when they are relegated?

I thought every player had a relegation release clause in their contract.

Newcastle don't even have a manager in charge only a caretaker manager, they need someone in quick, morale and leadership will be low, the "big" teams have lost the plot on how to run and manage a club in the premiership, Spurs and Newcastle have been a laughing stock all season and it all started from the man at the top.

Surely Newcastle fans have been fed up for years at the lack of performing and getting right up there, yet they haven't left yet. Complaining, being fed up are one thing, actually giving up going to see the team you love is a completely different kettle of fish.

Im fed up yes but now we are a "financially stable" club were playing some of the worst football Ive seen and going to get relegated. Yup nice one Sherlock that makes perfect sense to me, make the club self funding and then smash the majority of that income which keeps the books balanced by playing in the Championship. Were onto a winner here lads.

Not only do Newcastle fans seem to feel entitled to an owner who will spend more than the significant outlay Ashley has put out, you seem to think you can attract a top 4 manager at a struggling club thats fighting relegation.

Did I not say we arent entitled a "world class manager" but need someone better than a "coach" who got sacked from Notts Forrest when they were on the verge of getting relegated to the 3 tier of the football division!

Now to be fair, had Alladyce not wasted money on all the wrong players, the wrong positions etc then maybe he wouldn't have screwed them up so badly but after his time there and the position of the club you weren't going to get a big manager.

I also can't remember but I don't remember a significant amout of people upset at Alladyce's appointment, so if lots of people thought he was good, the fans wanted him, the owner gets him, then its all the owners fault when he sucks?

Allarydce was appointed by the old regime, Ashley sacked him as he wasnt a yes man. However not many people up here were happy about his appointment and the potential of playing Bolton style football but were willing to give him a chance. Id take him over Kinnear or Houghton anyday of the week though.

Its a big misconception, usually by cockneys, that us georgies think were entitled to big names and managers. For the record I would have prefered to have spent the money for Owen on 2 strikers rather than an "international superstar" but Shepherd was more concerned with getting his face in the news than what was right for the club.

Oh and also, were fed up with the owner and the rest of the board because they clearly cant make a decision when they need to. Kinnear gets informed he needs a triple heart bypass and will be out for a good few months so why not go out and get someone in until the end of the season who can do a job for us?

Sigh

Who exactly do you want to get in, you'll find many managers are already in employment, those that are the ones deemed good enough are probably premierleague managers that won't leave their clubs, ones who could be tempted away are at lower league clubs who might be doing okay but might also suck in the premiership.

Likewise, I'm trying to think exactly whose been brought in under Ashley, Coloccini(who might be good) Basson who seems highly liked, Gutierez, the injured guy whose name I can't remember and have never seen so no idea if he's good or not. TO be fair theres nothing to say you can play better football with a better manager. With Ameobi and Carroll needing to be played due to injuries you're going to struggle upfront. IN midfield you've brought in Nolan who is decent but again he's got a weakened strikeforce to play up to.

But your first post, and second is all around having a go at a guy whose come in paid off massive debt, got injuries to deal with has bought some very decent quality players. Again I'll ask, who should he have got in. Who else should he have spent limited funds on, was the Milner for Gutierez deal not a fantastic deal generating money for the club out of a pretty lame player.

The team is not good enough and he couldn't afford to replace every last player, nor can he magically make owen fit. Frankly the games I've seen with Owen and Martins fit you look a pretty decent side. You're going to be much worse playing the likes of Ameobi.

We're going to get relegated basically because we don't have a manager.

Haven't you been playing relatively poorly with no consistancy all season, under Keegan and Kinnear? Isn't there a man making the managerial decisions effectively doing the job. LIkewise didn't you score, and could have been in the lead against us(Arsenal) at the weekend and didn't we only score our 2nd against 10 men, and the 3rd with Taylor and Bassong off and the first with Bassong out also. Up to that point you were by no means fantastic defensively but you were certainly creating chances upfront. On another day without Bassong/Taylor injuries you could have easily won that game with the same setup that Houghton came up with.

It reads to me like fans looking for any reason to bash Ashley. Anyway, who should Ashley get in as manager then, if its the key to keeping Newcastle up who would save Newcastle?

It seems to me the previous regime got lots of paycheck players who won't leave till their contract is done, who are no where near good enough and make buying new players impossible as they have to keep wages to a managable amount. I fail to see where the blame is there, nor in his failure to persaude a great manager to come in and manage a bunch of names who are past it. I honestly don't even know, is Viduka still there? viduka, smith, barton, all ludicrous buys and if I took over the club I would fire Alladyce with saddling the club with that lot of crap right there, even apart from the fact he's a crap manager.

Were going round in circles...

Milner wasnt sold to bring in Guitierez, that was one of the alleged reasons Keegan wakled out, and Id rather have Milner out of the 2!! Guitierez has zero end product and the only thing I can really think he has done is that shot against Man U where Lovenkrads scored. Hes got some really nice footwork but even with a weakened strike force of Ameobi and Carrol, who are both good in the air, if you cant put the ball in the box you arent going to score.

You say he couldnt afford to buy new players for every position which I totally agree but everyone knows that if you want to do well in the Premier League you need clinical goalscorers and we are paying the ultimate price now. Even on a budget you could have picked up someone with experience, Sunderland managed to secure Cisse who without his goals would be in the bottom 3 potentially.

I know its easy to point the finger at the owner as Im doing but he has made some fundamental errors which I hope dont see us get relegated. Im fully prepared to give him a chance to work out his 5 year business plan but I do hope relagation wasnt in there in year 2!!

Newcastle a big club?! You made my day :D haha

On a serious note...

Why? they have contracts with the club, they cant go anywhere.

The club will probably release them. Newcastle have a HUGE wagebill and getting demoted hits the clubs hard especially when thier already in debt. Less sponsorship money, less tv advertisment, less fans, cheaper tickets it all adds up.

Even if we get relegated Newcastle will still be part of the ECA and so will take part in any European Super League if it gets the green light.

:p

Who do you think would stay, if we went down?

I'd like to think S Taylor would stay, but I think he's off
Harper Might

Can't really think of anybody else

Thats why we've been spending so much on youth setup, if we go down we'll have to play the kids! Which is why I think we'd struggle

Ruined?

You would be better run, have better players and not live in a dream world, the football is great in the lower leagues, less fancy foreign players that dive like they have been hit by a .30 sniper.

I couldnt even think of a player that would want to stay apart from maybe Harper in our first team..

Loads of fans wouldnt go anymore, i just think we would sink dramatically.

I cud see us going two ways if we get relegated.

Most likely screw the club and turn into leeds (no offence leeds fans) lol.

Or, I hope - sort us the hell out get rid of all the crap players ridiculous wages get a proper structure in and comeback up stable and fighting for those european places again - highly unlikely.

da_mic_1530 why do you like to think S Taylor would stay, hes crap I would like to think hes first to leave.

Have to agree drunkenmaster, Taylor is absolutly useless, I do rate Beye and Bassong and think Collicini is average and slow.

As for attacking, yeah Gutierez and Owen will be obvious targets for some clubs, Martins too but only because of his physical attributes, most games hes hideous he has the ability but hes totally braindead.

I thought Gutierrez looked brilliant in the opening few games - now he seems to have pace and good ball control but a good portion of his crosses and even short passes are pretty woeful. He can burst into the box but from there he's bloody hopeless. I'm not sure about Owen, he's had too many problems since 2006 and it'd take a lot to regain the form he used to show, and until then, I genuinely don't see him at anything better than a mid-table team like Fulham/Wigan.

I think if Newcastle went down then this could be the start of a very desperate and unfortuante circle for them. They would have the parachute payment from the Prem for one year. However there would be an immediate drop in sponsorship money both from match day, shirt and club sponsors. Not to mention the lost revenue from match day hospitallity.

This coupled with a pretty hefty wage bill for a sub standard team bar a few exceptions means faces will have to changed on a wholesale scale. It would be naive to think this wouldn't have an impact on match day attendances. In as much as Geordies wax lyrical about being the most loyal of supporters, lets not forget before KK did his first stint at St James Park, Attendances fell of a cliff.

Newcastle could very quickly end up another Notts Forest or Leeds. Both of which must be classed as bigger clubs because of their European and domestic successes in the 70's, 80's & early 90's

Did they? Or are you just repeating what you heard from the media? Before Keegan came in attendances were down, they were down throughout the whole country. Between 82-92 Newcastle's average attendances only fell below the Division 1 average twice, the two seasons being those spent in Division 2 iirc. In 88/89 Newcastle's attendance only dropped below 20k a handful of times, whilst teams like Man Utd were getting attendances of 23k.

I'm not saying Newcastle fans are the greatest fans ever, but its the same **** spouted by the media everytime they have a go at Newcastle 'where were the loyal fans in the 80s?!?!? LOL!'

Edit- Actually Newcastle spent five seasons in Division 2 between 82-92 and still only fell below the Division 1 average twice in those ten years.
