***OFFICAL*** Left 4 Dead Thread!

new update March 25th

Updates to Left 4 Dead have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

Game and client changes


- Introduced fatigue to the melee attack in versus mode. You will see a HUD display when your melee swing is cooling down

- Boomer vomit will now pass through common infected

- Addressed some surround sound detection issues

- Fixed a rare crash when exiting Left4Dead on Windows Vista

- Fixed a case where the complete all expert campaigns achievement was not being rewarded


Dedicated server changes

- Corrected an issue where Windows based dedicated were sending spurious shutdown notifications to the master causing them to delist temporarily

- Fixed dedicated servers not resetting the versus team swap correctly--you could join a dedicated server that had a previous game that was swapped and arrive on the other team than what was selected in the lobby

- Renamed the tags for sv_search_key to use "key:" in the server tags instead of "sv_search_key." This should help with issues of the 63 character limit of server tags

- Fixed an occasional server crash related to voting

Like the changes boomer vomit was a pain in the backside and hopefully this will also see a reduction in the melee spam :)

just had a quick go on a random server.

Boomers are much better since this update even if you are not covered defending the hoard is much more difficult.

The melee spam is really reduced its a bit odd to get used too
 
thats because everyone has become too dependent on the spamathon, it will be much much better now that you cant just stack up in a corner and be invincible :)

That was a bloody close game that was Mrk! We were loosing untill Lyon come to the rescue. Isn't it just great to claw some points back :D

Also the jenkins game was class later in in the evening. First time i've ever tried it and i thoroughly enjoyed it. Didn't think much of the melee fatigue which seemed to appear out of nowhere, no warning or nothing. Guess i'll have to get used to it, but it will be even better to play as infected.

Three melee hits is a bit harsh. I never got a chance to play last night so dont know what its like but should make things harder for survivours.

I will be on tonight if anyone is about. Looking forward to a dance in the elevator ;)

can someone upload a clip of the new melee so I can see what its like now?

Im stuck at work til 8pm tonight :(

I think it's good tbh, most of my melee time involves a double whammy --reloading whilst meleeing-- so it would be fairer on the other side tbh. A bit of a meh to start with but it forces you to stay on your toes at all times as a survy now instead of loitering a corner meleeing your way around whilst reloading your autoshotty then mowing infected down with 10 quick BLAT BLATs.
 
from when i had a bit of a go last night it is more difficult. the thing to watch out for is hunters as you cant just bat them away as before. even though the cooldown period is pretty quick if its mis timed the you are screwed
