I moved into a 1 bedflat with my eldest when she was nearly 6 months old (as a temporary measure until something better came along) after splitting with my girlfriend.

Despite being a single parent the free council house was surprisingly slow in arriving (as in never)

I then met my new gf (now the wife) and we had daughter, meaning the 1 bed place was a bit cramped. When the new sprog was a couple months old, the flat downstairs from us came free so we moved in there, gaining a extra bedroom and a half (3rd bedroom is a 6x6 box with now exterior windows...) and a bigger living room and kitchen.

All was well in the kingdom until the subsidance/collapse of the building started to show up. Parts of the shopfront marble popped out into the street and the side of the building split open, meaning our side fire-exit no longer locks as the door frame has been pulled too wide (and i've had to wedge a pice of timber under the handle to keep it shut.)

I was nagging the landlord to sort something out for about 2 years, so he sold the building to his son and i had to start all over again :(

At the start of december he mentioned that he was getting hold of a 4 bed place with a garden, would i be interested? Umm yeah, just a bit. :D

After MUCH (and i mean snotloads!) of chasing him around we finally picked up the keys from the estate agent today!

We got the agent to show us around the place a few days ago and it looks like the previous owners just packed their clothes and walked out the door, the cupboards are full of crap, the sheds are fulll of crap, the loft is full .... you get the idea.

The back garden looked really big on google earth, but seeing it in the flesh it looks like they were running some sort of zoo, with cages and shed EVERYWHERE, no sign of any grass.

BUT, it has potential, i can rip down the shed, use the rubble to level the garden, sort the terracing and have a garden in about 6 months (i not pushing myself to sobbing point anymore). The interior needs the hideous wood panelling taking out and a general update, but again, it has lots potential.

Really can't put into words how happy we are to get our hands on a house :D

Off to go and change the locks, measure up and take some better "before" pics now. :D

thats a nice plot of back garden land you have there sir :)

if you save the money, knock down all those crappy garages and get a jacouzzi in ;)

also I noticed the land is rising up, evening it out would be good if you can get the tools in to do it.

That bird cage has to go lol

Congratulations. :D Moving to a new place is exciting. Hope it works out well for you. So have you bought the place or are you renting it? If you are renting it, shouldn't the landlord pay for sorting the garden and building?

Congrats SB! 4 bedrooms will make it a LOT better for you. Nice one.

I think we could have another project thread to keep us entertained!
Keep us updated, and cogratulations on your new house :)

:)

I'm happy for you mate.

You should probably work your way through the stuff left behind and take what you can to a jumble sale or something.

Demolishing all those sheds sounds fun :D

Don't forget to give us highlights if you find any interesting junk!

So have you bought the place or are you renting it? If you are renting it, shouldn't the landlord pay for sorting the garden and building?
I would have thought the same. Is there anything to stop him kicking you out after a year (or however long the minimum contract is) when you've transformed the garden and house?

Ah, that's because you're not an underage mother who's slept with half the county. ;)

Congrats on the new place; just what were the previous owners doing in the back yard, and why did the landlord let them get away with it? If my tenants tried something like that, they'd be out on their ears!

lol your back garden looks like a shanty town. If you ever manage to tear it all down post pics, or if you decide to house the homeless there...

Well done Sir.

I reckon that you could get a few dozen immigrants in those luxury studio appartments in the back garden.

So you rented from this guy before and had serious issues with the property physically falling apart around you, he spent two years dithering and eventually decided to kick you out by selling it to his son? And now you've decided to rent from him again? Are you mad?!

I was about to post the same, beat me to it.
