I moved into a 1 bedflat with my eldest when she was nearly 6 months old (as a temporary measure until something better came along) after splitting with my girlfriend.
Despite being a single parent the free council house was surprisingly slow in arriving (as in never)
I then met my new gf (now the wife) and we had daughter, meaning the 1 bed place was a bit cramped. When the new sprog was a couple months old, the flat downstairs from us came free so we moved in there, gaining a extra bedroom and a half (3rd bedroom is a 6x6 box with now exterior windows...) and a bigger living room and kitchen.
All was well in the kingdom until the subsidance/collapse of the building started to show up. Parts of the shopfront marble popped out into the street and the side of the building split open, meaning our side fire-exit no longer locks as the door frame has been pulled too wide (and i've had to wedge a pice of timber under the handle to keep it shut.)
I was nagging the landlord to sort something out for about 2 years, so he sold the building to his son and i had to start all over again
At the start of december he mentioned that he was getting hold of a 4 bed place with a garden, would i be interested? Umm yeah, just a bit.
After MUCH (and i mean snotloads!) of chasing him around we finally picked up the keys from the estate agent today!
We got the agent to show us around the place a few days ago and it looks like the previous owners just packed their clothes and walked out the door, the cupboards are full of crap, the sheds are fulll of crap, the loft is full .... you get the idea.
The back garden looked really big on google earth, but seeing it in the flesh it looks like they were running some sort of zoo, with cages and shed EVERYWHERE, no sign of any grass.
BUT, it has potential, i can rip down the shed, use the rubble to level the garden, sort the terracing and have a garden in about 6 months (i not pushing myself to sobbing point anymore). The interior needs the hideous wood panelling taking out and a general update, but again, it has lots potential.
Really can't put into words how happy we are to get our hands on a house
Off to go and change the locks, measure up and take some better "before" pics now.
