Do you have to do anything special when you add meat to a toasted sandwich such as cold meat slices? I don't want to get food poisoning by not heating the meat up enough...

No, as they are not raw and do not need to be cooked.

If the meat is precooked e.g ham, Roast Chicken slices ect... then no problem If meat is uncooked e.g raw bacon, raw chicken then don't bother putting it in the toastie as you will poison yourself

It's a good idea to run the slices of meat under the tap or give them a quick wash before you toast them, just to get rid of any potentially harmful heat-reactive bacteria.

PK!

Unless you intend on toasting the sandwich (i.e. heating the meat) and leaving it for a while (packed lunch etc) then you have nothing to worry about, stick it in the toastie and get eating!

Top tip, rip the meat up and mix it in with the cheese a bit. If you put a slab of ham down on top of the cheese, it will stick to the cheese, causing one of the slices of bread not to stick to the sandwich properly.

our kid is always making toasted sandwiches with ham , corned beef etc and never gets ill from any "heat-reactive bacteria"
a little bacteria is good for you anyway.

i always thought that you had to reheat cooked meat very very well ?

might not be same for slices of ham etc

but chicken/beef must be piping hot before serving..

Its gonna hit a high enough temperature in burning cheese to kill any harm :)

Yep, to get cheese to melt melt, not just get softish, takes heat that can kill the little blighters.

I've used cooked chicken/ham/chorizo/salami/etc in toasties for over 20 years, and I have never had food poisoning.

Are you using one of those toasty making things that cuts one sammich into two toasted sammiches when you close the lid?
