The day has finally arrived to pick up my new car. Ordered last Autumn the specification was finalised by the middle of December with delivery today some 7 months later. Usually the wait is much longer but I managed to find a dealer who could deliver in time for Spring. Not that this car will be a garage queen - it's going to be driven whenever possible
It had to be red - Rosso Corsa - with black leather, Scuderia Shields and Red Calipers. Without further delay here it is in the showroom this morning.
The yellow protective cloth bags on the back shelf are covering the matching luggage. More of that later.
After about half an hour of paperwork and explanation of the cars systems, I was on my way and looking for some nice quiet roads to get used to the 620BHP produced by its glorious 6 Litre V12 engine
You are immediately aware that this is a wide car - overall width is 1962mm which is 6ft5in. The suspension is firm, and the fully electric Recaro Seats grip you firmly in position. Seats adjust in all the usual directions but also have electrically controlled pneumatic lumbar support, seat cushion bolsters and seat back bolsters. At 6ft7in I fit just perfectly with the seat down and back as far as it will go. Steering column is adjustable for angle and reach which puts the wheel right where it needs to be for total control. F1 box is slick and intuitive. I'm already loving this car
I drove for about an hour and compared the experience to that of my old 575. In comparison the 599 feels so refined, smooth and comfortable and if you think that means docile it doesn't. Hit the loud pedal and it takes off like a bat out of hell and rewards driver input with firm, crisp and focussed handling. Just perfect
Pulled over to take a few more pics. Here they are :-
The dealer had supplied black mats with red logo, but these look a bit more subtle. I think black with grey logo would look better but they didn't have any in stock. We'll see. Here's one of the inside.
You need to appreciate the size of the massive ceramic discs. On the front the discs measure 398x36mm with one-piece 6-pot aluminium radial mount calipers and the rear features 360x32mm discs with aluminium 4-pot calipers. Remember these are 20" wheels.
There are various sets of matching luggage available which are totally coordinated to your choice of interior trim. Here's the 4-piece boot set with detail in the second shot. They really are gorgeous and my pictures do not do them justice.
One of the nicest touches regarding today's delivery was this leather bound Official Ferrari VIP (Vehicle Identification Passport) of my car's build, including photos of my actual car during the build process. How cool is that?
To finish I set up my camera on a tripod and record this short clip of the 599's engine starting and me blipping the throttle
I'm over the moon with this car and feel very privileged to be owning one. Ten years ago I was virtually broke and I hope that my success will encourage others to aim high and achieve their dreams
There is just one more pic
I hope you've enjoyed the pics
