Not sure if the story is 100% true, but a work collegue once told me that he met a bloke who wanted a tattoo on his arm to remember his Mam and Dad. He wanted them in a cross with the Middle 'A' forming part of both words.

Unfortunately the Tattoo artist got it slightly wrong and he ended up with....

Mum and Dud!

The poll is flawed, it doesn’t have “Mama” or “Mamma”, or a few others, we do all live together.

It's certainly a North Eastern thing, almost everyone I've met refers to their mother as mam.

My friend from Newcastle says 'mam', and he's certainly no chav - studies Maths at Oxford.

I'm not a chav so I must be just wrong. There are wide variations in the north too... Err, an example, I don't use the word "ginnel" but I know what one is.
