Email details and website visits to be stored by the government as of today

Well big brother gets bigger again, I wonder when the men in black coats will start dragging people off into the night.

I'm usually OK with this sort of thing as I have nothing to hide, but this seems like too much an invasion of privacy for me. It seems lazy on the governments part if this is how they're expecting to find terrorists or crims, I suppose because they're using one big net to sweep in all our info.

This and the constant, obsessive political correctness, bureaucracy and health and safety etc just drives me away from the UK and it's ridiculous cost of living. I hope that one day i'm in a position to move away to better places and better things, even though I like the relative peace and calm we enjoy in this country.

You seem to have misunderstood what is happening, it says that they have to store it, not that it will be checked. I assume if someone is suspected of something, then their details can be accessed, while regular joe's will never have their details looked at.

Yes but,

"Hundreds of public bodies and quangos, including local councils, will also be able to access the data to investigate flytipping and other less serious crimes."

So that could be basically anything!

To get an idea of how dire the situation is - look there are 2 pages in this thread, about a really rather troubling issue - and 5+ in the Parkison Jade Goody thread.

You would think, seeing as this forum caters to people who would be interested in this kind of news (which, frankly, should be everyone who cares about the future of humankind).

This just saddens me and sickens me...

That's really all I have to say :(

Same, I would like to say I'm surprised or even shocked. But I'm not, this is only one law in hundreds that this governable has passed to abuse their rights.

What's even more disgraceful is people have fallen for the oh it doesn't bother me as I have nothing to hide attitude

Well I hope they have fun reading logs of all the porn sites I've visited. Hope they don't catch on about the torrenting though :p

It's bad that our privacy is being invaded, but i am confident to collect data on a person of interest, they'll need a signature from the Home Secretary. I mean i can't say i really care much about it. I'm not planning on blowing up the country or touching kids.

If they want to know what i look at on the internet, all they have to do is ask me.

Porn, Facebook, porn, OcUK, Pistonheads. :p
