sickening police violence

He is quite obviously not 'walking home from work'. He is intentionally being obstructive, ignoring the Dog Handlers instructions to move. If you have a Police Dog behind you, you leave sharpish, not bimble along trying to provoke a reaction.

I do however agree the Officers approach was heavy handed.

guy died which is sad but looks fairly staged to me, he certainly wasnt in a hurry to get away from the dogs and police snappin at his heels.

well if he hard a heart attack its possible is wasnt in the best health or not very good on legs meaning he has to walk slow

How could he have not noticed all those policemen there? Am I supposed to believe he just happened to stroll in front of a line of policemen and dogs?

there is a law on walking speed?

There's a law about obstructing police trying to do their work.

He's clearly taking the **** and slowing down on purpose. It must be frustrating for the police to have to deal with one person when they have a whole crowd to keep an eye on. It may be heavy handed but I probably would have pushed the guy out of the way as well.

I wouldn't say its sickening Police violence.

The guy is clearly obstructing the police and just generally being an idiot. If he hadn't been going out of his way to annoy the dog handlers he wouldn't have been tagged. Simple as. Yes the officer did go over the top but why in the hell was the guy being a knob in the first place?

Yeah, and deliberately in to the path of the police.

The officers were heavy handed but, from what I see in the video, he is clearly trying to be a bit of a smartass by walking so slowly and blocking the police officers. The officer didn't need to strike him to the ground, but he appears to have been a victim of his own stupidity as much as bad policing.

Regardless of whether he was being obstructive on purpose or not, nothing in that video (which is important because I don't know how it was edited) shows him doing anything that deserves that sort of reaction.

It's far from the sensationalist thread title though - they didn't single him out from across the street and decide to lynch the guy.

He's trying to inflame what is already a stressful situation. As me and many others have stated in other "Police brutality" threads, our officers have enough to deal with as it is. People going out of their way to turn a routine situation in to a troublesome one are asking for a reaction.

Yeah but there's lots of options in between "ignore him" and "shove him to the ground".

As far as I know, we still live in a free Country where one is allowed to walk on the public streets at whatever speed one likes to. That copper who needlessly pushes him to the ground from behind needs to be held accountable.

It's ****ing scum like that that gives the rest of the police a bad name.

Not saying he was or wasn't involved in protests, etc. but I can't blame a person for getting their back up if police act agressively towards them...

And regardless of him being right or wrong, there was no emergency situation, the crowd didn't appear to be particularly threatening, there was plenty of opportunity to deal with this in a calm and considered manner, there was no reason why they couldn't have overtaken him and apprehended him.

As much as I hate the irrational anti-police spirit thats so common in this case the policeman was bang out of order and should be up on murder charges, if not then its a failure of justice he acted without due care of the public.
