sickening police violence

As far as I know, we still live in a free Country where one is allowed to walk on the public streets at whatever speed one likes to. That copper who needlessly pushes him to the ground from behind needs to be held accountable.

It's ****ing scum like that that gives the rest of the police a bad name.

Amen to that last sentiment.

Regardless of whether he was being obstructive on purpose or not, nothing in that video (which is important because I don't know how it was edited) shows him doing anything that deserves that sort of reaction.

It's far from the sensationalist thread title though - they didn't single him out from across the street and decide to lynch the guy.

What...A gentle push in the back.

The bloke can't even walk in a straight line, no one just falls over like that unless a.) there is something wrong with them (some sort of illness) or b.)they are drunk...Or just generally can't keep their balance.

going by the 'slowed' down video, the baton didn't even touch him, he got pushed in the back and fell over...GOT UP minutes after walking fine.

I saw of picture of him and he had a Millwall shirt on, so we all know how they like a ruck.

He was taking the p but the officer should not of forced him to the ground.

Hard to ignore someone who keeps obstructing you. As I said, the reaction was way over the top but i've got no sympathy for him.

I have little sympathy for him if he was purposely taunting the police, etc. but even so it gave the police NO reason to treat him like that, its completely and utterly unacceptable.

His own fault he got pushed and his death was pretty unfortunate but i cant see much wrong from the police there. He is being moved along and told by the police what to do yet blatantly tries to walk back into the police at one point and isn't "just walking home".

He may have been taking the wee but the reaction of that riot cop was unjustified

I'm sorrry...I'll just go and take the pee out of every cop now then...knowing they are not allowed to lay a finger on me if I blatantly be a plank towards them...During quite a hectic protest I might add.

That's not what I was trying to suggest - the decision the copper had to make wasn't between 1. Do nothing and 2. Push him over, there were lots of other things that could have been done.

Although really if you decide to walk through a protest on your way home you need your head looking at.

NAs much as I hate the irrational anti-police spirit thats so common in this case the policeman was bang out of order and should be up on murder charges, if not then its a failure of justice he acted without due care of the public.

Even though the bloke was fine after the 'assault'..Hell, you can sneeze on someone and assault them nowadays.

he was apparently a homeless guy with drink problems who had been hanging around the kettled off area near RBS all day

if anything the policeman pushing him was doing him a favour - not a great idea to bimble about when they are clearing the area with dogs - doesn't look like they intentionally knocked him to the ground or anything more like they gave him a firm shove in order to get him to move on and he fell.

As someone said above... they had the option of doing quite a lot of other things, not violently pushing him out the way...

Laying a finger is one thing, being forced to the ground is another

Ok, say you're walking down the street and some guy purposely keeps on walking a step in front of you. Are you going to think "This is fine, he's got a right to do that". I think I might go out now and deliberately antagonise some police officers, see if I get any punishment. No... wait, i'm familiar with social etiquette and the role of the police in the community; the latter being to keep the peace. That guy was clearly looking for a reaction and he got one.

Its scum like that guy who give protesters a bad name.

Agreed but the guy was looking for a reaction. Just a shame he got one he didn't like.
