Modified cars 'could put lives at risk'

what makes me rofl copter even more is that the guy said he'd spent £15k on his mr2. I mean, seriously, WTF? Could have bought an E46 M3 for that and actually had some respect.

It's a choice really. Wait years and years to save up or progressively build your car up improving it bit by bit. It's not until you sit down and do the sums until you realise how much you've actually spend.

As for the woman on the radio's son, he was killed by doing 70mph in a 30mph limit. What he is in is of no relevance. That type of person would have done the same in any car. It's the speed that killed him, not the mods. Stupid people.

AA Chairman Edmund King said:
"We believe that many hundreds of lives are put at risk by these modified cars.

He might "believe" it, but what evidence does he have? I would love to see how many accidents, fatal or otherwise, are directly attributable to modifications. I'm willing to bet it's a minuscule percentage.

Newsbeat should be taken off the air for having a misleading title.

Newsbeat, beating news with the stick of fail™

The report made me want to punch my radio, what's the difference in having a 400bhp car such as an M3 and a car modified to have 400bhp with upgraded suspension and brakes? None.

it's the cars modified to have 400bhp WITHOUT upgraded suspension and brakes that are the issue...

Modded cars are fine, its the knobs that drive them thats the problem. I personally think its about time that any car being driven dangerously should be crushed, regardless of value or who the owner is. That would make a much bigger difference than trying to control modding of motors.

It's as bad as someone having Ling Longs on a V8 Audi yet no one seems to argue the dangers of bad tyres. People choosing the cheapest tyres possible for their car is a much bigger issue than a handful of people with NOS in their cars.

so in-conclusion, the report didnt really say anything of any real merit. It was a filler peice, probably cleverly timed with the release of the new Fast and Furious film - it was meant to cause a bit of a stink and get people talking, it worked but it won't change anything.

how many people really stick n2o kits on there cars?

Erm, there are a few of on here who run it - I started fitting my kit last night.

So they want tighter controls on NO2, which is illegal on the road anyway.

It's not illegal for use on the road.

According to the Ministry of Transport and the MOT handbook, the UK treats a nitrous oxide modification much as it would any other modification - such as adding a turbo charger or supercharger. There is no law prohibiting its use, but as with any tuning modification, the owner must inform their insurance company and obtain adequate cover, otherwise the vehicle is rendered illegal.

Given the amount of cars modified badly by complete cretins, with uprated power but inadequate brakes and suspension, I'm with the AA.
