Hi guys,
I've recently been contemplating tooth whitening. Whilst I don't have stained or particularly yellow teeth, I used to smoke, and drink a lot of coffee, and they're noticeably less white than they used to be.

Now I'm only going to go with my dentist, who'll do a proffessional mould and send it off to a specialist who'll make a proper tray. Then I'll get the bleach and away I go.

The cost is £300 for both the upper and lower sets, including the bleach. My dentist is amazing so I trust them.

So, has anyone got any experience? Done it? Paid more, less? Any pitfalls, problems?

Most importantly, how much difference did you notice?

Ant

Yes, I had it done. My teeth are fine but I had it in my head that they needed to be whiter. Not worth the £180 it cost as the result was minimal to say the least.

I also went a bit heavy with the bleach to begin with resulting in bleeding gums. Despite the dentists saying it was a 21 day program, they wouldn't give me anymore bleach after I'd ran out after under two weeks, not unless I paid £60 :o

I've been tempted. My teeth have noticeably yellowed due to smoking. Would be interested in others experiences. :)

Teeth Whitening varies in so many factors. It's pretty pointless if you smoke or drink loads of red wine as it will just stain them again. There's also either the trays or the one house laser bleaching, both have there positives and there negatives.

You aren't going to see massive changes, but it will remove some of the staining and brighten them up a little bit.

The only other option is to go for Porcelain Veneers or Lumineers. Both treatments are very pricey, but it's the only way to achieve that holywood smile at a cost of £10k-20k, but be warned it does make your teeth very bright.

I will try find a picture of mine ;)

My wife's a dentist and she says that the laser treatment is temporary and a total waste of money.

She made me a mould and got me the bleach but i haven't used it yet. The bleach cost her £10. Her surgery gets it for £5 and as mentioned above they're then sold off for around £60 or more to the patients.
Anyway She's had hers whitened and it does look good.

The cheapest teeth whitener is to brush your teeth and stop smoking.

This solves 99% of problems. The other 1% being your diet which often stains your teeth if you don't do it right.
