What is the best version of vista?

I have seen;

Home Basic
Home Premium
Business
Ultimate

Are there more?
Which is the best to have?

If you want Vista for Home Entertainment go for Home premium, if you want to join a domain, go for Business. If you want everything go for Ultimate.

Business if you need to join a domain
Home Premium if you need Media Centre
Ultimate if you need both

I's avoid Home Basic on anything more powerful than a netbook.

So Ultimate includes everything

What do you mean by - Joining a Domain.

A domain is used in organisations with active directory structures for user accounts and machines, it allows organisations to set group policy and manage objects from within active directory, as well as tieing in user accounts to local servers/services such as Exchange and SharePoint.

If you wil only use the machine at home then home premium should cover you as it comes with Media Centre, Aero etc. SOHO (Small Office Home Office) networks tend to use Workgroups instead of domains

Ah, i wont be doing that it'll just be on one machine.

Looks like Ultimate if it includes everything.

I'd consider re-reading the thread :p

Home Premium should be fine for Home Use and include everything you will need, including Media Centre.

Business includes ability to join a domain, but doesn't have media centre
Ultimate includes ability to join a domain, and also has media centre

Perhaps read up on the different versions yourself before just splashing out on something you don't need.

Thanks for the link - Home Basic is rubbish isnt it, lol :)

There are advantages from Home Premium and Business but Ultimate includes everything, i know someone that could probably get me it a little cheaper :d

If not im still undecided from Home or Business.

Sounds like you should go for Home Premium to be honest. I have Home Premium and Ultimate and besides the domain stuff there is very little difference. Any other features like Bitlocker and Remote desktop can be substituted easily with third party software.

Windows 7 can't come quick enough in this respect - I'll just be able to recommend Home or Pro.
