hi, would i benefit upgrading from pc6400 to pc8500. i currently have 2 x 1gb of corsair XMS2 pc6400 800mhz ?

youd benefit if you went to 4 gig, the difference in the 2 speeds isnt really noticable but the faster stuff does allow you to OC you CPU easier at higher FSB's

And depends really on how you use the system. It will make more of a difference in gaming and multimedia processing. But first you should get more RAM. 2GB is not optimal.

Kingston... some motherboards are a little fussy when it comes to Kingston memory, Gigabyte do not like mix-n-match memory when it comes to Kingston memory. I would recommend either Corsair or OCZ. From past experience with memory.

thanks for the replies. yes i was looking at getting 4b. i would like to ask about the timings, i have no idea ? what is a good timing and how is one better than the other. thanks

Generally speaking, lower numbers are better when looking at RAM timings.

Most PC8500 is rated at CAS5 or higher aka slower. Also, if you are not OCing your CPU then you will see a minimal gain by ONLY increasing the memory frequency. So, unless you are going well past a 400FSB then the PC6400 is fast enough.

However, if the price for 4GB of PC8500 is very similar to 4GB of PC6400, then you can't go wrong with the 8500. It will be a bit faster at stock or OCed.
