How long did the novelty of your current or past cars last, assuming of course you actually like/liked it?

Looking back I think I've only had one car where the novelty didn't wear off and that was my Integra. With everything else the rose tint wore away pretty quickly.

I think the car with the shortest lived novelty was the 330ci sport. Very very nice car but I think I set myself up for a fall as I'd convinced myself it was going to be almost an M3. Soon realised it wasn't and novelty value vanished.

MX-5 novelty value lasted about a year, great car but only having two seats small boot and being a bit poor for long distances got to me in the end, even a big power increase couldn't stop me from selling it.

Same here with the ITR, I'd still have it if it wasn't for that old deer that ran out :(

Neil.

Still enjoy the MX-5 every time I drive it. Honda isn't really a "novelty" car, it's good, but it just gets me from A to B :)

My first car was a Land Rover S3 safari. Novelty lasted about 1 year (off-road fun) and then I wanted a nicer more comfortable car.

Next was a Citroen Xantia (yes, I know.... :( ). novelty of funky suspension lasted about 3 months.

Next was a Corrado G60 which I modded to around 220bhp. Fun as hell, awesome handling, bloody quick too. Novelty wore off after 1 year of 18mpg and quite a lot of driving which forced me to sell :(

Next was my first company car, Fiesta 1.25. Great fun little car, but knowing it was be replaced in 3 years meant the novelty of a 'free' car wore off after about 2.

This was followed by a RenaultSport Clio 172 (company car again). To this day probably the most fun car I ever had. Quick, amazing agility & handling and cosy inside too. Got written off at 2 1/2 years old when a motorcyclist came off his bike coming towards me on a bend and his bike hit the car and wrote it off (he was OK though, aside from needing a change of undercrackers!)

Saab 9-3 TiD next. Loved it for 6 months, didn't like it much thereafter. Now on a new Mondeo Titanium X with all the goodies. Had it 7 months now and still really like it.

Had my Z4 for 6 months already  Its true that time flies when you're having fun. I absolutely adore it.

Love the power, the noise, the way it looks, the looks that it get, the comments it gets from passers by and obviously the fact that the girls love it :D

I think it helps that I've always wanted one ever since the day I went to the BMW garage on the Z4 open day and was taken out by a BMW guy when I was about 15.

Hoping to keep it for 2 years and then I'm absolutely clueless as to what I'd want to go for...
I've usually got my next car worked out, but I just have no desire to even contemplate changing this car yet :)

The novelty value on my Fiesta lasted about a month, it was nice having a car with a reasonable amount of power (coming from a 1.3 Escort) but now i'm craving more power.

Ive had the 200 for about 6 years now and I still enjoy driving it. I know it isnt a car of any prestige, or comfort and the interior is creaky but for driving enjoyment when giving it some beans, its a good laugh and is relatively cheap to maintain.

I've had my CTR for nigh on 2 years and despite the ballache it's been in the past, the novelty has yet to wear off. Well maybe I should say the novelty of the screaming engine and VTEC have yet to wear off. :D

I'm starting to accept that I might never get rid of it and run it as a second car just for laffs depending on what I go for next.

I think i might have to agree with that, the 330ci sport (same car! :D), 330i sport or indeed the 530i Sport i had recently. (Not a lot between the lot of them really).

Fantastic for a day, maybe 2, maybe 3, maybe even a week.

Then i thought bugger, its not that quick, its not that luxurious, and then my mind wandered.

Would love an M-car of either, the extra power really suits the excellent chassis'

I've had over a year of re-mapped polo gti turbo fun and it's still as fun as the day it was done :D Now the Milltek's on it's got an extra smile factor

Would've been bored after a couple of months had it not been modified though...although that's the case with most cars for me

in two weeks ill have had my old golf for 3 years. amazingly the novelty has not worn off, maybe its because the expectations were zero. there have been times when ive been working on it that ive hated it, but i cant really remmebner those now.

the only thing i raelly hate are the eibach coilovers i fitted

I think its because you don't drive in any way that would test expectations :p

That's great but what has that got to do with the thread?

Not sure, I am also not sure why everyone seems to love that thread so much? Its Fox's prerogative if he wishes to keep his car pristine - and having seen it many times he does a damn good job at it.

ive had my mx5 for 2 years as of 2 days ago. The novelty is just wearing off as I need a cambelt change and on the trip home yesterday I started hearing some nasty ticking metallic noises from underneath.....

I just know this is going to be expensive and thus unfixable for me.

Maybe some people have nothing better to do than take the mick out of someone who cares for their car. One person compared that thread to the Astra thread on detailing world where the man nearly rejected the car because it had a small paint defect.

Some people need to get a grip.
