Hello There.

Looking to buy some new speakers and a headunit.

I had in mind the following:

Vibe Slick 69.2 co-axial

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_508433_langId_-1_categoryId_165707

and:

Sony CDX-GT31u Headunit.

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_709751_langId_-1_categoryId_165474

Can anyone speak as to the quality of either of these parts, or suggest anything else in the same price range.

I can get these both for about £140, cant afford to go over this sum. Also, the ability to play off of USB is a must.

Thanks.

Your obviously not going to be entering any competitions with your install. For your needs I think these will be completely fine. Will you be running off an amp or just connecting to original speaker cables?

tip

if you already have speakers in the car, just buy the head unit first,im glad i did! as the new head unit sounded a million times better than the previous one so there was no need to waste money on new speakers

unless your wanting to put some in shelf what looks stupid imo :p

Naa, not that fussed about getting the best. Just want a nice dynamic range.

I listen to a lot of dubstep, so I will be getting a sub in the near future to support the lower frequencies. For the time being though I have to make do with some 6x9s.

There are two 4" speakers on the front dash by the base of the windscreen which I'll leave for now, and there is currently nothing in the back.

Was planning on using the outputs from the headunit to hook up the 6x9s now, and maybe get an amp when I buy a sub. I may just get an active sub to save on space.

I suppose I could loose the 6x9's and get some component speakers to replace the stock ones in the front., I did however want something to kick out some bass until I bought a sub..

Only one review of those speakers on the Hellfords site:

Pros: sound quality

"these have got to be the bargain of the year !!, you will find it harder to better, unless you spend silly money, for £39.99, they are simply unbeatable, tight bass, crisp treble & midrange, plays all kind of music with ease, have mine fitted in the rear of my punto, linked upto an alpine head unit, thought my old jbl`s were good until i listened to these beasts.. has to be 5 stars, best ive heard.............go buy with confidence"

"In My Punto" - says it all really, 6x9's are pants.

Or should i say : Says, it, all, really, 6x9's, are, pants * felt like i was missing out on his punctuation abuse.

6x9's will give out a little bass but I'd just save the £40 and put it towards a sub myself. :)

Bearing in mind all I have currently are some awfully tinny stock speakers in the front, I would still need something better for the mids and highs. Would you suggest I go for some front components instead then?

Also by what reasoning are 6x9's pants?

Audio reproduction values are poor, problem is you don't want treble and midrange coming from the rear of the car, also your audio problem is going to be compounded when you fit a sub in the boot. Ignore the 6x9's, save some more money and buy some components for the front then add a sub.

However 6x9's sound well loud innit, so they will always appeal to chavs.

The name of those vibe speakers gives out a ceratin aura about their quality, or quite frankly, complete lack of it.

If you must get some 6x9s, try some infinitys or JBL.

But stick with smallers 2 ways if you can and get a small sub. Much better, and this is coming from someone with 6x9s on his parcel shelf from my days when I was 17/18 :D

Sweet, thanks for the tips everyone.

If I bought both components for the front, would adding 6x9's to the rear enhance the soundstage or cause problems?
