Picked this up a week ago for the princely sum of £700. 83k, mot until Nov, taxed until Sep. No major issues - drives as it should and quiet as a mouse (unless you floor it). It's actually the LAST Scorpio Cosworth ever made and the only Y reg the club knows of.

On Monday I gave the car a good going over and found a few probs:-

1: No rear wheel arch liners. I now have fitted replacements.
2: Oil leak from the sump plug. New sump plug and washer fitted.
3: PS fluid leak. New jubilee clip on the bottom of the PS res outlet.
4: Interior lights not working. Traced to a dead power saver relay, now replaced.
5: Couple of dash/clock bulbs out. Now replaced.
6: ABS/TCS light would come on intermittently. Traced to a corroded rear abs sensor connector. Now cleaned and working ok now.
7: Tyres were barely legal. New Pirelli P6000's fitted all round.

Now all the little niggles were sorted I turned my attention to getting the car spruced up.

1st stop was to have Motorsport Developments remap it - they reckon it's good for 15bhp and 15ft/lb extra but overall the drivability improves. Being an automatic it's hard to prove it on a rolling road but I can confirm it feels smoother all the way through the rev range. Throttle response is noticably crisper too.

Then fitted a metal Cosworth badge and dark side repeaters.

Fitted 6x8 JBL speakers in the rear and a Kenwood KCH200 media extender in the glove box (lets you play MPS of a USB stick, control iPods etc).

Next the engine bay - cleaned with Autoglym Vinyl and plastic restorer/protection. Still a lot to do yet - just breaking it down into small chunks atm:-

Then the interior - cleaned with ArmourAll leather cleaner then treated with Autoglym leather feed:-

Then the hard work. Washed the car with Meguirs Gold Class shamppo on Wednesday then clayed it with PoorBoys medium clay bar. I cleaned it again after this then went over the whole car with Autoglym Super Resin polish by hand (really need to buy and orbital buffer). Then cleaned it again and sealed the paint with Autoglym Super Gloss protection. Today I cleaned it again and finally applied Meguirs Tech Wax NXT 2.0. Very pleased with the quality of the paint and no real swirl marks to note. I'll let the pictures do the talking:-

I have the car booked into a body shop in a few weeks to get these defects sorted out. I can't find any other damage/rust on the car.

Compliments the Westfield nicely and will make a nice tow car to transport the Westy around for track days.

I have to say, Ive always thought these were bloody ugly cars, but I cant deny how much you get for the money. Sounds like a nice buy, as long as those little niggles were the only problems :)

Dad had one of these when new , was such an amazing wafter.

All the electrics broke and he px'ed it in for about 2k after 4 years.

For £700 where can I go wrong?

Had a really good look round the car and I can't find ANYTHING else wrong though. And it drove nigh on 300 miles back from Basildon in one go without as much as a jitter. Plugged my OBDII scanner into it and the only fault codes stored were the rear ABS sensors - which I've now fixed :-)

agreed, they are ugly cars from all angles, but with a cossie engine i imagine it'll go quite well, and can't argue at the price.

Indeed, that was my point. You wont get much more for £700.

And I sold my old S reg Cosworth Ultima for £450 - with a rattly cat, rusty arches, dented wing and bonnet and 138k on the clock :-) You can just see it in the bbackground on one of the pics - just been driven off by the new owner now :-)

I was thinking that I swore you posted a thread just like this last year! You did have another scorpio :)

Wow its on a Y plate? Didnt know they made them that late

They didn't - they made them until June '98. Mine was the last one off the line then it sat in Dagenhams forecourt/showroom (which I find ironic as all the Cosworths were built in Germany) alongside an Escort Cosworth, Sapphire Cosworth and Jelly mould Cosworth. Then a director from the BBC came round for a tour in Nov 2001 , spotted the Scorpio and casually said "it's a shame you don't make those anymore, I'd have one if I could get a brand new one". "make us an offer they said". So he did and he got it registered as a Y reg. Clue on the BBC thing - look at the end of the reg plate.

Looks very clean and those seats look great.

What sort over power does the engine put out?

207bhp at 6000rpm and as much torque (207 ft/lb at 4250rpm). Plus (anyones guess) what the remap has done - 220bhp + 220ft/lb is reasonable.

At the time of its introduction Cosworth claimed it was the most powerful petrol nasp sub 3 litre production engine. And so far, I've been unable to disprove it.

Lovely looking car mate, not thought about covering your plates when posting pics in the net ?

Well, considering there are only 4 tourmallard green facelifted Scorpio Ultima Cosworths out there I think the likelyhood of someone cloning my car is very slim.
