breathalisers in pubs and clubs

Why would you need one? If there was any doubt as to whether you were over the limit, you shouldn't really be driving.

Probably because someone with half a brain who'd knocked back quick few pints decides he needs to drive somewhere, breathalyzes himself before the alcohol has reached it's peak point in his blood and deems himself safe to drive.

One pint is the limit isn't it? (In units)

No... the limit is measured in Blood Alcohol Content. Pints are measured in alcoholic units - these affect everyone differently. On average, one pint won't put you over the BAC limit, but it could, depending on metabolism, diet, liver function etc.

Thanks for clearing it up for me. :)

why dont they have breathaliser machines in pubs and clubs?
to expensive ?

would you pay £1 to use such a machine ?

just a passing thought.

I don't drive when drinking anything but I would pay a £ to show how uber and hammered I am to my mates perhaps. Good stag do fun.:p

the alcohol limit should be zero, but they can't do this because of mouthwash etc

drinking even one pint does effect your judgement

I've seen them in pubs, folks use them to see who can get the high score :p

you have to remember to give it 20mins from last drink though before using or you are just measuring alcohol in yiour mouth

Technically not true, it can't be zero due to naturally occuring alcohol in your blood, not the use of mouthwash.

I used to work some 25 miles from where I lived and on work nights out if I couldn't scrounge a bed for the night I'd just drink coke. Nothing like being sober and listening to drunk people laughing over things that are not in the least bit funny.

I think the police over abuse motorists, but one thing I'd be in favour of is random breath testing even when they have no cause to stop you. Also you should have a driving test after the first drink driving ban to get your license back, and if you get caught a second time then a permanent ban.
