anyone dabbled with nitrous oxide before?

he was following on from my FNF quotes ;)

I think in this situation, you might as well try NOS and see how it goes. You can just stop using it if you get tired of the refil costs and sell on the kit. I would look into the cost to the engines life cycle in standard guise however. NOS is better on an FI system really, but FI can cost a hell of a lot.

Think yourself lucky not owning a K20 engined car. You can spend £6k just on ECU, remap intake and exhaust for 20bhp if that!

are you sure? £6k for 20bhp? I had the EP3 and DC5, £6k will get you well over 300+ bhp. There's still 2 DC5s in my family and they did not have to spend that much money to get that kind of power. First DC5 is pushing just over 300+ bhp supercharged, he spent around £3k. Second DC5 is pushing 270-280bhp n/a tuning only and he spent around £5k = ) My DC5 would be around 400bhp but I've a family now, gotta feed the baby =)

In the long run if you are handy with a spanner which is sounds like you are would you not be better dropping a 1.8T in with a proper turbo on it. Power to cost ratio the 1.8T is hard to beat.

you gained 70-80bhp with £5k and na tuning? what did you do exactly?

Hondata ECU, manifold, amuse titanium exhaust, wide throttle body intake from a honda accord, buddy club spec 3 cams and few others stuff. I've seen him beat few M3 e46 at stand still and kept up with my brother's evo 6 = )

mk2 plus 2.0 16v it big win. another one of my friends has exactly this and is adding a supercharger :S mine currently matches his anyway, but when he has the charger i shouldnt stand a chance

How does it match yours when yours is about 200kg heavier? Is your mates an ABF that's having BBM stuff put on it? :)

on a rr day we were at recently mine was making 15bhp more. mine is still on digi3.2, his is kjet, his is abf too.

is bbm bahn brenner? if so, no. his is having an eaton from a mini put on, all home brew stuff

At the end of the day though, you're arsing about with a Mk3 which has a **** load of miles on it, as it is. Buy a Mk2 shell and put an ABF in there.....you'll have much more fun for not a lot of ££'s. You know it makes sense. ;)

This is correct. ;)

Can carry all the running gear over = wider track and bigger brakes. Exactly what I plan to start this summer.

Guessing its an old mk2 then? 15bhp more at the fly then? so maybe 10 at the wheels? I can't remember the exact weights of the cars, but 150/1 = 150bhp/tonne and 165/1.2 = 137.5bhp/tonne - Your mate's should be a bit quicker going off these figures, plus there is the handling etc....

BBM - yeah Bahn Brenner.

Find yourself a G60 engine, if you are on about keeping your mk3 - 65mm pulley and a good chip and exhaust - you'll be 200bhp with no hassle. :D

However, I would still be after a 90 spec mk2 and getting that ABF banged in. :)

On a driver? Sorry, but I wouldn't bother. Get something decent to start with and put G60 brakes on, if you must. Do you really need wider track? :)

Yes on a driver, what difference does it make? I'm transferring over all the running gear, so I'll have mk3 rear beam inc rear discs, front arb, mk3 brake setup, hydro clutch etc. So it makes sod all difference if i start with a CL, GL, GTI, G60 etc etc.

And it is decent thank you

Do I need a 20 year old car, do I need the hassle of putting a new engine. etc etc its all irrelevant really, down to preference no?

Anyway, back on topic ;)

Your main difference is that you are wasting time and money (unless you have it already). Have you/are you doing all the interior etc? Bee sting? Exterior trim? Is it going to look like a 90 spec, or an earlier model? Is it a 5 door?
What you are doing is all well and good and has been done so many times before but you'll find that the majority of people that do it wish they had started with with the real thing in the first place. Don't think I am being an arse here, but at the end of the day it will still just be a modified driver. :)

btw, is it Montana Green? :)

just got myself an old mk2 16v for £300, stripped it out ready for some track abuse, once the 160k 1.8 dies gonna find a 2l 16v for it. Gotta love the old golfs however i must be mad as i have owned about 10 already and im only 25!

also it had been sitting for 4 years before i brought it and just needed rear brakes for the mot, result!

A work colleague of mine has added Nitrous to his already modified Track Fiesta RS Turbo, its a 75 shot so he reckons it will bring the BHP to about 330BHP which for a car weighting ~800KG should prove to be rather fun.
