I currently have the following -

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ - Socket 939. Running at 2.8ghz, Orthos CPU stable at 3ghz

GSkill PC4000 DDR - 2 x 1Gb Kit - Extreme Series HZ (Black heatsink) Running fine at 280FSB on 1T timings. (Boxed)

DFI Lanparty Ultra-D S939 Motherboard - Boxed with all the bits

Arctic Freezer 64 Cooler

If I could get around £100 for this setup then spend around £100 or a bit more on an E6600 cpu, motherboard and either 2x1gb or 2x2gb would it be worth it? My memory is going for higher prices than some of the newer stuff for some reason.

Personally I think it would be worth it, especially if you can overclock the E6600 to 3GHz+.
The RAM will be a good amount faster, helping overall system snappyness.

If you can get a free (or virtually free) upgrade, I'd definately go for it :)

Thing is, you are going from one dead socket to one that will be dead at the end of the year. Either save up a bit more for a AM2+/AM3 rig or wait until core i5 comes out. You won't get a 775 rig for £100 anyway. A E6600 will set you back anything from £65-85, a decent board the same amount and another £20-25 for a couple of gig of ram. Or were you talking £100 + £100?

I read it as £100 + another £100... but we're all a bit confused I think :p

Where are you getting your stuff from pastymuncher? Cheap as anything! I'd say more like £100 min for an E6600, similar for a decent mobo, unless its a second hand E6600?

Was going to get this stuff for £110 on here -

Core2Duo E6600 CPU (clocked upto 4ghz)
Thermaltake/Thermalright plus (120mm blue fan on it)
Abit AB9 (Pro)
2x2Gb (4Gb) Kingston PC6400 DDR2 Ram

Decided to stick with my setup as A. i would lose 1 IDE port so 2 hard drives and B. I dont really play games.

Was just looking at the upgrade because it would almost be for free if i could sell my stuff for around £90 - £100
